Just waiting for DS2 to get ready and make his way to school to collect his results

He’s incredibly nervous as he needs 6 or above in English, Maths, History, PE and Science

I just want this to be over and for him to have the results

Anyone else waiting anxiously?

Phew, not outstanding but certainly good enough for 6th form.

What would a 6 and a 7 be in "old money" as it were?

6 is roughly a B, and 7 is roughly an A.

Thank you!

DS collected his from school. Good set, enough for college for his A levels. He'd been panicking a bit.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/08/2020 10:27

Phew, so glad that's over.

Ds2 did really well, very proud of him. He got amazing grades. He did very well in his mocks but mucked up his French so really pleased the teachers were able to evidence his working level was higher than his mock grade.

We were very worried DS2 would have been heavily penalized by the algorithm as he is a high achiever in the local school which doesn't get good results across the board so I was incredibly relieved they ditched it. Made me so cross as we made a conscious decision to support our local school and felt this was a real kick in the teeth.

Got results DS needed :) Amused at some that seem too high & others are fair based on mocks but low compared to what DS knew he could do if he actually revised; couldn't account for DS being a procrastinator who made a point of no revision for mocks, but would have revised for actual final exams.

I was expecting bad news today but we are pleasantly surprised and my DD is happy and looking forward to 6th form

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 20/08/2020 11:45

Im over the moon at Ds results. Im just so happy the decided to revise how they were allocating grades because i knwo he would have been downgraded due to where his school is and the general attainment there. Im so proud of him, hes had so many upheavels and setbacks in his life and i was told this day would never happen due to his autism so i couldnt be prouder of him

GunsAndShips · 20/08/2020 11:50

Dd's best friend got straight 9s.

What a flipping relief!

Paranoidmarvin · 20/08/2020 12:01

My son actually did a grade better in the algorithm than the school. They put him up a grade that he couldn’t have for doing the level science he was on. Confused

This would have been my daughter.
There are always those who pull their finger out in May and others who cave in the exam under pressure. I wonder how many kids will choose to resit - do you keep your current grades anyway and do you have to pay for the pleasure?

WitchSharkadder · 20/08/2020 16:23

DS got his results and I'm over the moon & so proud, straight 9s. Well done to all of your DCs, it's been a tough year and I hope they all go on to have an amazing time in their chosen futures.

The80sweregreat · 20/08/2020 18:07

I've been watching the news today and it's good that these exams have gone better than the A levels went.
It's strange they are still saying ' A and B's ' though! Why did they change it to this silly 9 to 1 thing? Makes absolutely no sense to anyone!
Well done to everyone today that got what they wanted or needed. The young get a bad press , but so many work hard and deserve to do well.

riversandhills · 20/08/2020 18:27

Having more pass grades allows for more "resolution". A*/A (top two grades) got split into 9/8/7, so getting a 9 is harder and more valuable.

My personal theory is that it will sound much less stupid when grade inflation means they add a grade 10 than it would sound if they added a new grade called " A**"
