Did anyone not do anything for their 40th birthday?

Obviously it's strange times anyway but my 40th is coming up and their is so much expection to do something. I always find people are up for weekends away until they have to pay and most parties I've been to not every one has turned up which is my worst fear anyway!! Is it normal not to do any thing and maybe just have a family meal. I hate being centre of attention anyway plus we've just got a new puppy and feeling very much like a new mum right now!! What did you do for your 40th?

I went for a walk on the beach with DH and the DS's. I didn't want a party. Didn't do anything for my 50th either. I don't even remember it!

I had a big party and then flew to LA with my DH and DC. We spent a few days there and then went on our first cruise. It was all fabulous, I love planning stuff for my birthday.

I had a meal with my dc and a walk on the beach. I’d considered going away but lockdown happened. I’m fine with what we did.

I had a few friends around mine for a meal. It was lovely and about as much as I'm willing to do. I'm not really a sociable person.

I was 40 this year. I hate parties and don't particularly like being the centre of attention. I also don't see the HUGE DEAL that is made by turning an age with a zero at the end and how that's more important than it just being your birthday. 🤷‍♀️

So I planned to go to Mexico with my husband to escape it all. Anyway, coronavirus. I stayed at home and saw no one but my husband. So I definitely got the quiet, no fuss birthday I wanted but not exactly how I planned! 😂

I had lunch with a couple of
Close friends and it was perfect

Nothing for my 18th, 21st, 30th, 40th or 50th. I’ve never had a party. No one cares enough I suppose. Also I think the birthday person is supposed to organise so I would not do that because I don’t have a circle of friends to celebrate with. I like to go to the zoo on my birthday with children. I really enjoy that.

I had the day off work and went to the gym.
In the evening I sat on the landing for ages waiting for my DD to settle down. Then I did some OU work (since dropped out due to non sleeping child). Rock n roll.

Can't remember, but given the children's ages we probably went somewhere like Ask, possibly with friends who have children the same age if they were up that weekend.

For my 50th last year H and I went to the pub in the afternoon and the three of us had fish and chips for tea.

Do what you want to do. I went horse riding with a friend, my mum made me a cake, we had a family meal (6 of us) and then 4 of us went for cocktails. It was perfect for me.

I was a newlywed on my 20th birthday and had just moved 750 miles away to a new city and didn't have any idea where to go and what to do and no money to pay for it.

I was pregnant at 30 and did nothing as I didn't feel up to much.

I turned 40 and my sister sent me a bouquet of strawberries dipped in chocolate and balloons. That was pretty much it.

I turned 50 last month and my husband and adult children took me out to a restaurant. My first choice restaurant went out of business due to Covid-19 and it was a strange experience with all the social distancing and masks.

Hopefully, I see 60 and I'll do something much more interesting.

I went to see Harry Styles on my own because non one I know likes him, had a meal with a friend, and on my actual birthday stayed at home with beer and Strictly come dancing which is exactly what I wanted to do.

billandbeninsanfrancisco · 19/08/2020 13:53

Was heavily pregnant with DD, had DD aged 2 at home. My mum and dad came and stayed while we had a night away. Was nice, no biggie. No interest in a party and I feel the same about upcoming 50th!
