Sorry, could not find the Christmas thread!

This will be my first Christmas alone for 42 years.
Can you give me any ideas to get through the day? Thought of going away, but with two dogs and a cat, that seems unlikely😮

Would love to hear what everyone else does.

its my first one alone too- am going to a rented cottage (pet friendly) in a favourite moorland village, the church there is super- friendly, inclusive, and has a wonderful nine lessons and carols service on Christmas eve, the local pub is also a favourite haunt, too.

On Christmas day, after church, there is a fantastic walk up to a local icon, and further along a little moorland cross, so that will be the focus of the walk- once home, a leisurely bath, a chilled seafood platter, good bread, and a bottle of ice cold champagne.

will hopefully have a good book on the go, and will be playing favourite music including Bach's Christmas Oratorio

will just be chilled out and indulgent, and will probably have few tears for absent loved ones.

is there anywhere local who provide a lunch for elderly or those on their own where u could volunteer to help out? I think I'd find the day quite long so I'd like to do something like that and then have some nice treats for myself at home later.

Indulgent treats. Favourite or good film lined up. Anyone to chat to on phone?

You could try the Christmas Puzzle!
Here's a link to last years.

OP if you post on the Christmas topic you'll get lots of ideas from lovely people there.

I'd second the volunteering idea - I did that a couple of Christmases when I was living alone with no friends/family nearby and it was wonderful. Really rewarding and very festive.

It depends on what sort of day you'd like - some quiet, quality you-time or to share the day with others?

Thamks all!
I have been looking at volunteering on Christmas Day, but at the moment, places are not taking volunteers just say to keep checking their pages, or already have their quota for this year!

I know I should be grateful for family, toxic in laws, and sweltering heat at Christmas, but just reading your post makes me well up @workingurl. I hope it's wonderful.

OP, do you have any local web pages, like the local mn pages, you might find some ideas there?

workingurl · 19/08/2020 20:36

thankyou- I hope so too Wine
