How much weight do you have to lose to drop a dress size?

.. And how long did it take you? I'm currently a 14,and I'd like to be a 10 again. To do so, I'll have to lose about three and a half stone.

I feel this is quite a lot - a girl at work who is roughly my size was saying she drops a dress size for every 10lbs she loses!

2 stone for a dress size for me too

Surely it depends on your body composition. I've been strength training and have lost a dress size without losing any weight, as I've lost fat and gained muscle.

Easylikesunday · 18/08/2020 12:30

I'm of the idea of 1st = 1 dress size. But it really depends of you're dieting or exercising or both.
I lost 4 st with diet and exercise and dropped 4 dress sizes. This time I really haven't lost any weight but I've dropped a couple of sizes (diet is a bit looser and doing strength rather than cardio).

I dropped a dress size without losing any weight when I took up running.
The muscle built by exercising weighs more (by volume) than fat.

@monkeytennis97

well done, that's amazing

NoemiaElara · 18/08/2020 13:49

I'm a size 14. I was a size 10 when I was 2.5stone lighter. I can comfortably fit in 12's from 11.5 stone. I'm 5'2

I have enormous hips - both in bone structure and fat. To go down a dress size on my bottom half I have to lose 2 stone!

TheKarenWhoKnocks · 18/08/2020 14:09

As others have said, it depends on a few things:
Height: if a tall person loses two stone they'll be narrower than a small person who loses two stones
Starting size: the bigger sizes have bigger intervals between them. If you're size 20 or above it's a bigger gap down to 18 or 16 than it is from 14 to 12 or 10
Muscle mass: if you have a fair amount of muscle can be leaner than someone the same size and height as you
Weight distribution: if you carry your weight on your middle you need to lose more weight to drop a size than someone who carries it on, say, their thighs.

I think about one stone for me

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 18/08/2020 17:25

I’m 5’8 and at 14stone 8 I was a size 16, I’ve since lost 4 and half stone and am a size 10...so for me over a stone per dress size.

ABasilCocktail · 18/08/2020 17:29

A stone for me.
I'm 5'9"
12 stone size 14
11 stone size 12
10 stone size 10

Bobbiepin · 18/08/2020 17:37

@CaptainBrickbeard

I’ve lost three and a half stone since 2nd January and re-bought my favourite dress from last autumn so I can wear it again. Last November I needed a size 20, now I’m in a size 14. I’m 5’6”. So I’d say it probably does correlate for me as a stone per dress size. Tbh though, I always have a range of sizes in my wardrobe depending on style and brand!
This is amazing - well done!
wowfudge · 18/08/2020 17:58

There's so much vanity sizing out there that a 14 in lots of places is actually a 16, etc. I've lost a stone and half so far this year and can fit in some stores' size 12 clothes. Based on actual body measurements I'm a size 14.

Pipsqueakpopsqueak · 18/08/2020 23:38

I would say I’m about a size 8-10 at 9st, size 10 at 9.5 stone, 10-12 at 10 stone, 12 at 10.5 stone, 12-14 at 11-12 stone.

Deelish75 · 19/08/2020 06:33

I went from a 14-16 to a 10-12 in my early 30s, losing nearly two stone in three months (pre kids and active job) did it through weightwatchers. I'm 5'10".

ElspethFlashman · 19/08/2020 06:40

I've lost a stone in the last month and haven't changed dress size at all.

The only difference is that my clothes fit better.

I reckon I'd have to lose well over 20lbs to go down a size.

But I am tall and strong and broad with a DD chest. Oh to be petite and to see results fast! Confused

ChangingStates · 19/08/2020 06:45

I was a size 14 & weighed 11 stone. Lost 2 and a half stone and am now an 8 - 10. Took me about 6/7 months (and a separation from my then husband Grin)
