Is this normal for moving into a council property?

Been told yesterday we might get the keys tomorrow or could be later on in the week but I need to make sure I'm off work to come and sign- how can I just not come in if I don't know when I'm actually getting the keys until the day??

Just talk to your boss and fellow workers. I am sure arrangements can be made for a couple of hours. Unexpected life things pop up all the time and work places manage to deal with them - phone call that your elderly mum has fallen down the stairs/wife gone into premature labour/neighbour rings to say a bus has crashed into your living room/1001 other random unexpected things.

Totally normal for councils to do this. They'll want to turn it around asap but they'll be doing any required repairs and gas certificates. Our maintenance teams used to give us barely any notice of a property coming back for let when I worked for a Housing Association.

You'll just need to see if you can get some flexibility with your employer as you need to sign your tenancy agreement to get your home so its important that you are there. Alternatively ask the council if they do an out of hours slots

@minnieok

It's very unusual to get a council house if you are working these days. They probably wouldn't even think to factor it in

Does anyone know roughly how long it would take? Just the app and keys signed over etc?Smile
