Period Knickers

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 18/08/2020 09:15

Hello,

I've scoured the length and breadth of Mumsnet for similar threads but have found nothing. I did consider posting on "products" but more traffic here.

Does anyone on here have experience of period knickers? I'm considering using them. But my concerns are the hygiene aspect and leakage.

I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of users.

Thanks in advance.

Also wondering this. Amazon have good reviews. My concern is if you are out for the day and obviously change a pair or two. Storing them?

Furballs35 · 18/08/2020 09:19

I'm interested in this too. Someone on here posted a link to some very cheap ones which I bought and were great, but I want to buy more and I can't remember the site. I've scoured my emails looking for the order but no luck. They were about £2 a pair!

Looking for DD but they are so expensive

I've got some by Cheeky Wipes and they're brilliant! I also purchased their reusable towels, which are also worth buying.

Branleuse · 18/08/2020 09:22

I really like the cheekywipes ones ive got. No problem with leakage

adarkwhisperinthewoodwasheard · 18/08/2020 09:22

I recently started using Modibodi ones. No leaks, no fuss, so much better than pads. They're a bit tight the first time you wear them but after that they're fine.

Downsides are that a) they're expensive and b) they take a long time to dry. But I wouldn't go back to not using them

Bloodylush · 18/08/2020 09:23

I bought Modibodi for my dd and they are brilliant. She is asking for more but they are very expensive.

MovinOnUp · 18/08/2020 09:27

I'm thinking of these for DD.
I think most come in a bundle with a wet bag for storing used ones.
I think I'll buy a pair for myself and then decide if I'll get them for DD.
She's 11 and hasn't actually started yet but I'm thinking ahead.

Roswellconspiracy · 18/08/2020 09:30

Modi bodi are good but tbh I cant imagine using them all day mine are just cup back up.

BluePaintSample · 18/08/2020 09:31

Cheeky wipes ones are £10-£12 each unlike Modibody or WUKA. I believe Sainsburys are selling period knickers too.

I like the Cheeky wipes ones because the absorbent layer goes from the waistband at the back all the way up to the waistband at the front.

If you are out and about then you can put them into a "wet bag" same as reusable nappies. These are sold with the period knickers.

I have used reusable san pro for over a decade and the period knickers were so comfy. No bulky pad that can move as no adhesive backing. I feel cheeky wipes are true to size too. They also have a return policy.

I’ve just bought some Modibodi pants as backup for my mooncup, which overflows on the heaviest days. They seem great. I’ll be glad not to have to wear a bulky pad.

PrimeraVez · 18/08/2020 09:33

I have some (Modi Bodi) and I LOVE them. I hate pads as I find them a bit icky but these feel totally different. So comfortable, no smells, no leaks and as I wear the dark ones, you can't even see anything. I tend to wear them at the very beginning and very end of my period when my flow is lighter, and overnight as back-up to a tampon.

Thebumblingdark · 18/08/2020 09:37

I have modibodi ones and am not going back to anything else. They are v expensive though and do take a while to dry. They now do ones with bra hooks on the sides so you can change them without taking your trousers off which I thought was a good feature if using public loos.

BluebellsGreenbells · 18/08/2020 09:39

Amazon and eBay do them

SirVixofVixHall · 18/08/2020 09:42

I use Modibodi and really like them. They fit well, Look nice, and no leaks . Good quality. It makes me happy that I now have no towels going into landfill .
I have the highish waist ones with the lace top, in different colours.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/08/2020 09:45

Like thebumblingdark I thought the new hook side ones were a great idea, I haven’t tried them yet as I’m not using any loos other than at home at the moment. If I was living a normal life I think they would be really useful, no need to take your trousers right off to change pants.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 18/08/2020 09:46

This is really helpful. Thanks for the recommendations. I like the idea of the ease of taking them off in public loos using the bra hooks.
On heavier days how many would you use in a day?

Modibodi are great, even on heavy days they really absorb with no smell.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 18/08/2020 09:48

Thanks for the links BluePaint and Bluebells.

I got some extra heavy modi body ones and honestly they leaked, and I’m not even that heavy. 😱 I wouldn’t ever wear them as a main product. As the knickers are black and absorbent, you have no idea how much you have bled. Also, taking used Modibodi knickers off and switching when you are out in a public bathroom is a massive faff and messy + you have to then store at least one dirty pair of knickers as you go about your day. 🤮 Third I noticed that they actually smelled DISGUSTING after about 8 hours when I woke up from a sleep which made me feel so ill!

I would personally say that they aren’t great as a main protection, however... they are AMAZING as used as a secondary protection against leaks and are very comfortable. You could also use them as cycling knickers if you wanted as they have lots of padding. 😊

elliejjtiny · 18/08/2020 09:51

I love mine. I have really heavy periods so I still need to wear a pad with them but they have completely stopped the leaking and I no longer have to wear an adult nappy while on my period.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/08/2020 09:55

I don’t have heavy periods, I’m on HRT so I have a withdrawal bleed that is similar to my normal periods from when I was younger, but not as heavy as the peri-meno flooding I was getting. I could easily just wear the same pair all day without leaks. I tend to change them once during the day, but I don’t actually need to. I use the ones for light to medium flow.
I do have a pair of Thinx but much prefer Modibodi and only buy those now, as Thinx send enraging emails and refer to “people with periods” etc.
I am going to buy a pair of Modibodi for dd to try, I think they would be great for teenagers , and on sleepovers, if her period is due then no worries about leaks.

OpalExtra · 18/08/2020 09:59

I'm sure I saw M&S selling them now too. I'm tempted for over night on heavy days or when I do sport as sometimes a pad or the string on the tampon get in the way (sport involves sitting on my bum!)

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 18/08/2020 10:14

I've now got lots of ads featuring eco pads and period knickers on my Instagram news feed!
