What are the downsides to buying a flat rather than a house ?

Never bought a flat before but considering it

Depends on the flat - we've got a ground floor one with a garden, never hear our neighbours (who we know and who are lovely) and have just paid to extend our lease to 189 years and now don't pay any ground rent at all.
