What’s another word for four things?

I’ll expand on my thread title.

So say you’re giving someone a phone number and it has a group of three of the same numbers in it, you’d say “triple” and then whatever the number is.

If a number has four of the same numbers, what do you say? Am I right in thinking it would be “quadruple” and then followed by whatever the number is?

I'd say double twice. So if it was a phone number I'd say "double 2, double 2" for example.

Quadruple is the word but no one really says that do they? Probably double four, double four would work better.

Ariela · 17/08/2020 15:25

I'd probably say 'double zero, double zero' for 0000 rather than 'quadruple zero'

I'd have said quartet otherwise, if talking about four chairs for example 'a quartet of chairs'.

Devlesko · 17/08/2020 15:25

Quad or quadruple, quartet.

Lazypuppy · 17/08/2020 15:26

Double double, i'd never say quadrouple

HunkyPunk · 17/08/2020 15:26

Or four triple four.

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2020 15:27

Four fours

Jamhandprints · 17/08/2020 15:29

My phone number has three 8s in a row but I always say eight eight eight.

Thanks everyone! I feel so stupid even having to ask this! Grin

I would probably just say "four eights" especially if it's the end of the number, though quadruple is also correct.
