How much exercise do you do and what is it? I've been trying to up my activity levels to hit the NHS guidelines (in thread title) but I'm still oscillating between nothing and completely overdoing it.

What sorts of activities do you do and how many days per week?

I run 3 times a week - not very far at the moment though. Probably equates to about 120 mins of exercise a week. Then I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week for strength type training. That's another 90 minutes to 130 mins or so.

Hangingover · 17/08/2020 14:15

Hence the username foamrolling ! I'm impressed.

I don't feel impressive as I have a super fit husband and friends so my efforts are pathetic in comparison! I aim for little and often and try and get into a routine of exercising at the same time. Mornings work best for me.

Redraptor · 17/08/2020 14:20

I run for 25mins 3 times a week and walk an hour twice a week. That's all I can fit in atm

Twickerhun · 17/08/2020 14:21

Hours?! Minutes. Damn multi tasking

Mydarlingsleepthief · 17/08/2020 14:23

I do 180 minutes strength training a week and 60 minutes yoga.

Jemenfouscompletement · 17/08/2020 14:26

I don't have young DC and I work from home so I get up early or run in evening with club, 16 kmsevery day (around 1,5 hours) and try to fit a 2 hour cycle ride in (not swimming at the moment) so at least 13 hours a week.

ritzbiscuits · 17/08/2020 14:31

I run x 3, 1 or 2 ballet classes, 30 mins walk on days I don't run, often a bike ride per week too. Plus some stretching, yoga.

Adding running in/a daily walk made the difference. Have now made a new habit and I don't find it a chore.

DillonPanthersTexas · 17/08/2020 14:34

I row competitively which involves a mix of land training and on the water training about 5 days a week.

If you have a rowing club near you join it. Best exercise there is

linmanuel · 17/08/2020 14:36

I have just bought a rowing machine and have worked up to 30 mins a day
Miss the school run when there was more general activity to my day

nachthexe · 17/08/2020 14:38

4 or 5 hours a week elliptical and then stretching. Am trying to make it a habit and add in some other stuff but it’s a chore. At least on the elliptical I can just watch trash tv.
I used to run but I’m not fit enough at the mo and live somewhere with a lot of shit scary wildlife.

Humphriescushion · 17/08/2020 14:40

I play padel, is doubles only so not as energetic as some other similar sports but great fun and i play at least twice a week ( often more) so that is 180 hours a week.
When I first started playing i noticed a big improvement in my shape and clothes fitted better but no loss on scales. Not so much now though and have put on weight ( lockdown probably).

Redcrayons · 17/08/2020 14:40

According to my garmin watch I did 480 minutes of high intensity last week.

But on days I don’t run I barely do 2000 steps which isn’t ideal.

I run 20-ish miles a week. Yoga most days.
I try to do strength twice a week, but I’ve been a bit hit and miss in lockdown

Delatron · 17/08/2020 14:41

I run about 25 miles a week broken in to four sessions.
Then strength train twice a week Pilates three times a week. So more than 150 mins but not sure exact amount.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 17/08/2020 14:41

30 mins of HIIT and/or weights 5 times a week. This is relatively new for me though, as a response to being a lot less active daily since wfh.

Zaphodsotherhead · 17/08/2020 14:42

I run between one and two hours five or six days a week. I walk on the day I'm not running.

But that's what owning a terrier will do for you, and also working a late shift - I can run during the middle of the day, when it's quiet and light and I'm rural so the roads are empty.

How the hell do people with jobs during conventional hours manage to fit in the exercise?

Hopeislost · 17/08/2020 14:43

I do 3 x 45 minute HIIT classes per week and usually a yoga class and/or a swim on top of that.

DillonPanthersTexas · 17/08/2020 14:44

I have just bought a rowing machine and have worked up to 30 mins a day

What machine did you buy?

PickAChew · 17/08/2020 14:44

I have joint problems so stick with moderate exercise. I live somewhere hilly so there's always at least a section of a walk I do that gets my heart rate up. If only the downhill segments didn't hurt my knees so much!

Sexnotgender · 17/08/2020 14:46

I run 3 times a week- around 120 minutes and also walk the dogs daily if that counts? Usually out for 45 minutes with the dogs.

unmarkedbythat · 17/08/2020 14:47

Mostly, I run three or four times a week; how long for depends on whether I've kept at it and am running well, or have been lazy and not doing it and thus am back in the earlier weeks of c25k building endurance again! I'm a non driver so walk a lot- went for a nice walk with a relative earlier in the week and on the way back they were all but collapsing and whining on about how long it had been and how hard and honestly, it was neither, but that probably means what seems like a nice little walk for me is a trek for people who don't do much of it. Other than that, nothing unless you count playing with the kids. I was about to join a women's gym pre covid but now the thought of it is horrible. I should run more, I think, it's as good for the headspace as the physical exercise.

Parkandride · 17/08/2020 14:48

Would moderate intensity include walking? My fitbit says I do an hour a day of "active minutes" which must be my dog walk. It's brisk walking and my heart rate is up when I do it. Hope so!

Try and do a 30 min run and a Joe wicks HITT each week and a bit of yoga but they sometimes fall by the wayside
