Would you plan a wedding for 2021?

DP and I have recently decided to become engaged - after five years together (no DC yet).

We are of course in a strange time, where weddings cannot go ahead with more than 30 guests (which could change at any time - to anything!).

I’m also I suppose generally of the belief that coronavirus isn’t going away any time soon (or at least, not within the next 12-18 months).

A lot of our guests are outside the UK, and so wherever we decide to go, some people would have to travel (high risk in a time of coronavirus as to whether or not they’d come, would be allowed to come etc). I think DP wants all the bells and whistles - large extended family and so on.

Booking a wedding for 2021 in context of coronavirus, seems like a crazy thing to do. I think if a friend told me they’d just booked something for May next year I’d think they had lost the plot.

WWYD?

  • plan as normal?
  • have a small wedding and a party in the future?
  • just remain engaged for the foreseeable?

Depends on where u are in life, if your young and comfortable holding out then that’s prob best in terms of planning with certainty and for a traditional wedding format. It is so nice to have family and friends to bless the occasion. I’m 34 so at present I’m planning to book for 2021 and have an intimate wedding. Maybe in the future we’ll have a party but given age and not wanting to loose chance at a family I’d rather be married even with a small wedding
