Period is late

Just that really. Period is 6 days late. I am not pregnant. I have done two pregnancy tests and both were definitely negative, not even a hint of a line.

I know that periods fluctuate but I have literally never had a late period in my life except for when I was pregnant. They are every 28 days like clockwork. I have never used hormonal contraception - I have the copper coil. I am 31.

It's freaking me out. Any ideas?

I believe with the coil your periods can skip and even stop altogether after some time. Are y ou feeling worried you still are pregnant or?

AllTheFields · 17/08/2020 12:43

It's the copper coil, there are no hormones. It isn't the same as the mirena coil, where it's pretty normal to skip periods. I've used this method of contraception for 10 years and it has never once affected my cycle.

I'm just weirded out because I've never had a late period ever.

It happens. Usually due to an anovulatory cycle. Eventually your body will realise and you'll have a period. Most women get one or 2 in their lifetime.

I'm assuming you are not near menopause age, which can cause your cycle to become irregular.

I'm 31 so I'd be pretty devastated if this were a menopause symptom, especially as we'd like another baby. My mum is only just going through the menopause aged 56.

It's very unlikely to be menopause, and you'd have other symptoms. It is almost certainly because you didn't ovulate.

FWIW, after 22 years of no issues ever with my periods or contraception I have over this last 6 months had random intermittent bleeding. It happens!

I'm in a similar situation (except no coil, condoms only). About a week late and a negative test. It's driving me mad!
