Inside of a clear blue digital weeks indicator test help!

Took a clear blue digital weeks indicator test, result not pregnant. But, despite knowing better 🤦🏻‍♀️ I cracked it open. There are two lines on the strip with the test line, and one line on the strip above. On a non digital test I know this would indicate pregnancy, but have read that on digitals there are ALWAYS two lines on one strip and one on the other. Anyone have any experience of this? Will try and attach a pic!

Why did you break it apart? Hmm

livsmommy · 16/08/2020 20:17

6 years of secondary infertility and being a part of lots of TTC forums will do crazy things like that to a person!

When I was trying to conceive my second baby (took nearly a year) I had about five conception apps on the go on my phone, one of them had a great chat room.

It is common for people to take these apart, yes there are always two lines inside and lots of women believe that the two lines inside mean that they are pregnant and the outer reading is wrong.

They aren't meant to be taken apart and the two lines don't mean anything. I'm guessing that a positive would have three lines?!

livsmommy · 17/08/2020 09:48

Thanks Summer. It was last year on Mumsnet that someone first suggested to me to take a digital apart to see what the lines showed, I had never thought of it before that, I was pregnant but sadly miscarried, as I said I know I should just leave it, just not test at all even until my period is at least a week late but the desperation to be pregnant can make you do funny things! Tried to google but it’s very contradictory, just thought I’d see if anyone had any personal experiences and knew for sure what the 3 lines means.

I think two lines on a digital just means the test has worked, it doesn't mean positive.....sorry, I think it has to have three lines although if you contacted customer support I'm sure they would help.

livsmommy · 17/08/2020 10:10

Thanks Teddy. Not sure if you can see the pic I attached but there are 3 lines, two one one strip and one on the strip above. I need to stop googling and just forget about it I think, as I said above I didn’t even realise you could open digital tests until it was suggested to me last year by a fellow mumsnetter.

The weeks ones work differently. You can find it out online somewhere as I used to know but have no idea now. Try reddit or some of the conception focused forums like fertility friend, countdown to pregnancy etc.

Fatted · 17/08/2020 10:18

I have no idea how they work sorry.

What I DO know from my own experience is that they are not as sensitive as other tests. I had a negative clean blue digital result when I had had a positive on a first response. I was pregnant with my youngest at the time. It took about another week to get a positive on a clear blue digital.

livsmommy · 17/08/2020 10:23

Yes I think that’s why it was suggested to me last year to break one open, as they are not as sensitive, but it seems the ones with the weeks indicators work differently. In all honesty I wish I was ready to give up and accept it won’t happen! The clincher is, my cousin gave us the money for a round of IVF, but I self sabotage and put it off and off as I genuinely feel like if it didn’t work I don’t know what I would do. While we don’t do it there’s always that sliver of hope to hold on to! Sorry I’m just ranting now. It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’m all too aware I’m another year closer to menopause 😞

I was obsessed with taking these apart after multiple miscarriages - they always have 2 lines in them. The holder is basically looking for the secondary lines (the lighter ones) to be darker than the test line (the visible one) before it will change to 1-2 weeks, 2-3 and 3+

BertieBotts · 17/08/2020 10:32

Have you had karyotypes run? As this is cheaper than IVF (about £400 each I think) and would make quite a big difference in the process if it showed something up. I know not all NHS trusts will fund them.

livsmommy · 17/08/2020 10:46

No Bertie haven’t heard of those, will look into it now, thank you.

@livsmommy

Karyotyping is only really worth doing if you have had recurrent miscarriages and you've had all the testing done and nothing has come back with a reason but to be honest I've known loads of people have it and it give them no answers either

Trashtara · 17/08/2020 10:56

Digital tests have a number of lines on them. They do not indicate pregnancy like non-digital tests do. Weeks indicator tests have a different set of lines, again, none indicates pregnancy in a way that can be interpreted by a viewer.

livsmommy · 17/08/2020 11:51

@ivfdreaming just the one miscarriage, all fertility tests ie semen analysis, lap and dye, bloods have come back as normal. I need to stop thinking about it and stop testing! Easier said than done unfortunately but I need to try.
