My oven won't cook potatoes

I have no idea wtf is going on with it, it was replaced about 10 months ago, it's pretty basic (we rent, not going to get a decent one) it can not cook potatoes, ever. Today I chopped potatoes into chunks, put them in on gas 5 for around an hour then up to gas 8 for about another hour. They were still hard.
Everything else cooks fine, meat, cakes, bread and I'm pretty competent but I'm about to give up potatoes. Even if I par boil they just don't cook. Angry

We’re you trying to make roast potatoes?

You need to parboil until the potatoes are pretty soft on the outside, shake them around in the pan until the edges are bashed/crumbly ( if you have to work at this, to he potatoes not parboiled enough), then add goose fat (or butter), and pop in the oven at 220 for about 50mins.

Have you moved from a fan oven to a normal one? That might explain things (potatoes) not cooking as you'd expect. Particularly since pots need cooking on a high temp! How does the new oven do (from scratch) Yorkshire's?

Yeah we parboil for roasties. 10 min, drain, shake, tip out, spray with oil, season, then they take about 40 min or so.

I didn't par boil today, usually do, but it makes bugger all difference, yorkies are fine. My oven hates potatoes.
Gas oven now as before.

Grin you have my "curse"!

I had that problem before, I couldn't cook potatoes if my life depended on it! I remember dicing them and boiling them for over an hour and they were still hard!!!

My only suggestion would be to buy different potatoes. Had BEAUTIFUL boiled potatoes the other day with "small salad potatoes"
