Best slow cooker meals with no prep?

InTheFamilyTree · 16/08/2020 15:35

When I say no prep I'm happy to chop vegetables Smile but no time to brown the meat, can't be doing with that at 7am!

Help me get organised for September, will be ferrying 2 kids to childcare and going our to work and am feeling the fear.

What are your fave slow cooker meals with no hard-to-get-hold-of ingredients and minimal prep? Aiming to use 3 times a week so need more variety than my usual stew.

Pulled pork
Gammon in diet coke
Chicken taco chilli

dreamingofsun · 16/08/2020 17:07

only meat that needs browning are sausages. I'm currently really into pork shoulder as i can get a massive bit, sling in slow cooker all day and then do pulled pork (bbq sauce) or curry or sweet and sour

Slow cooker meatballs from the team tomm website are a favourite here, and very simple to do. Hoping to get some more inspiration from this thread myself!

Pork fillet is lovely out of the slow cooker. Just add a tiny bit of water and sprinkle or Cajun or bbq seasoning or whatever

Curry

sitckmansladylove · 16/08/2020 17:11

Also soup (with chunky bread - ads potatoes into the soup if you need something more filling)

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 16/08/2020 17:14

Beef stew. I buy diced meat, frozen veg pack, Chuck it all in with gravy and a stock cube and it cooks to perfection! You can add potatoes or prep mash in advance.

picklemewalnuts · 16/08/2020 17:14

A whole chicken sat on top of onions and potatoes. Lovely.

Ylvamoon · 16/08/2020 17:17

Veggie Curry (basic):
1/2 (or more) frozen mixed vegetables
1 can chick peas- drained
1 can coconut milk
1 can chopped tomatoes
Curry paste to taste (I use one paste pot)
Just put everything in the slow cooker, add some water/ veggie stock so that everything is covered.
Cook on low until ready to eat - min 6 hours.
Serve with naan bread or crusty bread!

BluebellsGreenbells · 16/08/2020 17:22

Get some freezer bags
Split meals into bags - spaghetti bol veg sauce
Stew vegetables
Soup
And freeze ready to pop in the slow cooker

As other pulled pork or gammon - quick and easy

Or prep the night before and stick in the fridge

Same if you have a bread maker prep the night before and add water in the morning

Chicken casserole is lovely and you can bung in baby potatoes and all.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 16/08/2020 19:38

Butter chicken is gorgeous.
Chicken fillets ( I use about 5)
Coconut milk
Chicken stockpot
Spoon curry powder
Pinch of garlic
Pinch of turmeric
Pinch black pepper
Pinch salt
Dash of tomato purée
Chopped onion

Throw it all in the pot for about 3/4 hours on high or 6 hours on low

I serve with basmati rice

sitckmansladylove · 16/08/2020 20:35

Thank You gin that could be a new staple here. Sounds delicious

Belindabelle · 16/08/2020 21:40

Marking my place on this thread. There is a right Autumn feel here today (Central Scotland) and I was just thinking its about time I got the slow cooker out now that school and work are back to normal.

I made this last night. It was lovely!

Totally agree with you about not doing prep - the whole point of me using a slow cooker is to reduce the time spent making a meal, so I refuse to do any meals in it that I can't just chop and chuck in! Favourites here are beef stew, BBQ chicken, beef stroganoff and chicken and bacon pasta carbonara.

wintertime6 · 18/08/2020 17:59

@GiveMeAllTheGin8 I did the butter chicken tonight, it was yummy and liked by everyone, including the toddlers! Thanks! I added a bit of cornflour mixture near the end to thicken it up a bit which worked well.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 19/08/2020 11:07

Glad you all liked the butter chicken ! I often add the cornflour too ( wasn’t sure if it was just my cooking 😂)
I find it so handy and the plus side is even my fussy children eat it !

missyB1 · 19/08/2020 11:12

Just wanted to say I brown my meat and do all prep the night before, then out the slow cooker pot in the fridge overnight. In the morning just get it out and switch on. Saves me time in the morning as it’s a bit crazy then.

I too have made this, it is currently in the slow cooker smelling delicious Grin A quick question - as an absolute novice cook, can someone talk me though how and when to add the cornflour mixture please?

ScatteredMama82 · 20/08/2020 10:50

Have you heard of 'the batch lady' - she has few recipes for 'dump dinners' (i.e. no prep). You put it all together then freeze it, ready to go in the slow cooker when you need it.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 20/08/2020 10:55

Beef stew
Chicken casserole
Whole chicken
Minestrone soup
Chicken noodle soup

I do all veg chopping the night before bung in a Tupperware, with all the ingredients, meat , herbs, spices etc.. put it in the fridge... add to the slow cooker with liquid in the morning. Really quick and efficient
