What did you think were great baby names when you were younger and how do you feel about them now?

Found an old diary from when I was about 9, and apparently I was adamant if I had 2 daughters they would be called Bethany Jade and Jenna Sylfae. I don’t hate those names now but they probably wouldn’t make the shortlist!

Did anyone else have names picked out for future children a long time in advance? Did you end up using them or have a complete change of heart?

I was going to call my DD Posy obviously was obsessively reading Ballet Shoes.

Until you mentioned that book, I was waiting to hear of her two siblings: Perkin and Pootle Grin

TimeTruthandHearts · 15/08/2020 23:59

My twin girls were to be Bianca and Claudia. Because classy.

christinarossetti19 · 16/08/2020 00:10

Bianca was one of mine, from the 'Rescuers' film I think.

Sabrina (Charlie's Angels) and Nadia (gymnast) were others.

I do know a Bianca and a couple of Nadia's and still like the names but didn't use them.

I have two girls. One has a name that I've loved since I was 11 years old and the other has a name I hated and vowed I'd never use, until I changed my mind about 2 days before she was born!

lobsteroll · 16/08/2020 00:45

I was going to have twins - Jessica and Elizabeth like Sweet Valley High 🤣🤣

Firebird83 · 16/08/2020 00:50

I was going to have boys called Erryn (?) and Dylan, which I thought was pronounced die-LAN 😂

I remember really liking Ashley for a girl, it sounded so cool and American to 8 year old me.

Tillygetsit · 16/08/2020 03:52

I wanted twins called Catherine and Caroline. The most vile woman I ever met had one of those names and I went off the other.

DeliciousBass · 16/08/2020 06:46

I wanted Jacob, Issac, Isaiah and Lazarus. I'm not at all religious I just really liked biblical names. DS was not named any of those. If I were to have girls they would have been India and Sydney. I'd still use Sydney.

Trashtara · 16/08/2020 06:47

I liked Poppy, Isabel and Olivia for girls, Roman, Felix and Ethan for boys.

I was about 10 (so 25+ years ago). People told me they were silly names.

We didn't use them when we had kids because they were too popular! I was ahead of the curve.

Soubriquet · 16/08/2020 06:53

Samuel James
Ruby Jayne

Neither of my children are called this Grin

kitschplease · 16/08/2020 07:40

Trudie, Annabella and Sabine. None of which made the shortlist!

mummyh2016 · 16/08/2020 07:55

Donna-Marie, Lexie and Lilly for girls and Josh for a boy. I wouldn't consider any of these names now!

Stephenfrylust · 16/08/2020 07:59

Tabitha and Jemima. No boys names.

Neither got used!

Shesapunkpunk · 16/08/2020 08:03

My name for my daughters in the late 80s (mid secondary school) were Frankie and Caitlin (pronounced Kate-Lyn - I actually do still like the correct pronunciation) HIDEOUS

RosieLemonade · 16/08/2020 08:14

My dolls were called Star, Moon, Sophie and Jessica. I actually used one of those names.

bunters · 16/08/2020 08:15

When my daughter was born my brother asked why I hadn't named her Renee. I had no idea what he was talking about but apparently when I was a kid I said if I ever had a daughter I'd name her Renee after the character in Ally McBeal 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also remember loving the name Ysabelle after a bloody squirrel (yes, 🐿) in a book I loved as a kid 😂

Shesapunkpunk · 16/08/2020 08:36

While Star, Moon and Sophie were enjoying their lives at the advertising agency, poor old Jessica was busy rotating shelves at Boots...
cliffdiver · 16/08/2020 08:44

Shannon.

There was a baby Shannon in Coronation Street who I thought was incredibly cute. Lots of hair.

I didn't end up having a baby Shannon, but I did have 2 DDs with lots of hair Grin

What other way is there to pronounce Caitlin? Is it an Irish way?

I do hope it was star or moon.

I was always going to have two boys, Ben and Miller. Decided that when I was about 13 I think ... fast forward 35 years and my Ben is 17 but I only had the one. One day I will be getting a dog and he will be my Miller :)

Ishihtzuknot · 16/08/2020 13:18

Love this Grin I wanted 4 girls called Paris, tayla, Aliyah and kelsi. Safe to say I don’t like those names now Blush

LittleMissA · 16/08/2020 13:35

I was going to have two girls called Toni and Terri! This was in the early 90s!!

TravellingSpoon · 16/08/2020 13:41

I wanted daughyers called Kayleigh ( after the Marillion song) and Simone. Then I read the St Claire's books and I wanted a Claudine too.

DD has none of those names!

Cellardoor23 · 16/08/2020 13:51

I loved the name Olivia when I was little but wouldn’t use it now. And Henry or Joshua for a boy. Didn’t use either for DS
