What did you think were great baby names when you were younger and how do you feel about them now?

Found an old diary from when I was about 9, and apparently I was adamant if I had 2 daughters they would be called Bethany Jade and Jenna Sylfae. I don’t hate those names now but they probably wouldn’t make the shortlist!

Did anyone else have names picked out for future children a long time in advance? Did you end up using them or have a complete change of heart?

I was going to have two girls called Laura Nicole and Kirsty Marie. I had friends with those names Smile

nasiisthebest · 15/08/2020 21:04

I had three names for girls. One was used by my brother (family name, still love it although DH doesn't so couldn't have used it anyway), one I used, one I don't like anymore because it sounds too old fashioned now.

Loving all of these, especially tarmac & lemonade!

Yukkalye · 15/08/2020 21:23

I was going to have a Gabriel and a Jude and a Mary. I have 4 dc but no Gabriels, Judes or Marys :). One of my dc is adamant he'll have twins called Cherry and Violet ...

BlueThursday · 15/08/2020 21:35

I was going to have two boys, Kieran and David.

I have one daughter and she has neither of these names Grin

JulesCobb · 15/08/2020 21:37

I considered Erin and Caleb.

I like both but didnt use either. I would have used Erin, if I didnt hear someone shout their friend’s name one day and think wow i like that!

ShipshapeShore · 15/08/2020 21:42

I remember getting a cabbage patch kid and proudly filling out her birth certificate with the very nicest name I could think of. Sally-Anne. I have two girls and I never considered it for either Grin.

SE13Mummy · 15/08/2020 21:50

I was planning on having a girl named Michelle followed by twin boys, Michael and Daniel. Then another girl, Danielle.

I have two DDs. Their names are nothing like those. I still like Daniel but won't be having any more children.

LanaDelBoy · 15/08/2020 21:56

I made up my own girls' name when i was about 11. A combination of Melissa and Belinda to make Belissa. I have no idea why. I told my mum who said it sounded like a missile... had no idea what that meant! Obviously i haven't used it...

GoshHashana · 15/08/2020 21:58

I made up the names Oquit for a boy and Cantabria for a girl. I won't be using either, surprisingly enough!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/08/2020 22:07

DS1 is the traditional name that one of my dolls was called Grin
It is a family name though Smile

FattyBoom · 15/08/2020 22:10

I loved the name Isis for a girl for years!! So errrr no....

Bunnybigears · 15/08/2020 22:15

When I was a young teen at liked Harmony for a girl and Ryder for a boy. I still quite like them actually especially Harmony.

Clawdy · 15/08/2020 22:17

Always thought Fritha for a girl because I loved "The Snow Goose". Many years later I actually had a girl, and decided it was a bit too different. She says she's glad I didn't go for it!

DonutCone · 15/08/2020 22:17

I was going to have 2 boys and a girl. Callum, Alyona and Niall. I have 2 boys and a girl, none of those names were used 😂

vinoandbrie · 15/08/2020 22:20

I wanted a girl called Anastasia after one of the last Russian princesses. I thought this name was the height of sophistication!!

This name was not what I ultimately went with!

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 15/08/2020 22:21

I was going to have Francesca and Abigail. Still like both but both too popular for my actual daughters who both got given names way down the charts

Wowcherarestalkingme · 15/08/2020 22:31

From the age of 12 I have always said my daughter will be called Charlotte. I had two boys but I would definitely have used it had I had a girl.
I also wanted Claudia and Owen when I was going through my Party of Five phase.

PetCheetah · 15/08/2020 22:33

When I had my DD my aunt was really surprised that I hadn't called her Diane because apparently I insisted that's what I was going to call my future daughter when I was a child. I have no memory of that at all.

Jarofflies · 15/08/2020 22:39

I was going to have a daughter called Jade, Nicole or Natasha (shortened to Tash).

Yes, it was the 90s.

TheCanyon · 15/08/2020 22:45

I always was determined to have a boy named Callen, my married name is a McC-um name so it would be daft together.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/08/2020 23:05

As a kid, I wanted to change my name to Myfanwy. I’m not Welsh and have never lived in Wales - I have no idea where I got the idea from.

workhomesleeprepeat · 15/08/2020 23:11

I used to genuinely love the name Dominic for a boy (I don't have a boy), but that's sadly been ruined by multiple people associated with the current government

JaJaDingDong · 15/08/2020 23:21

I thought Penelope and Geraldine were the most significant names ever.
