The more I think about it the more I would love to go back to that time. I was too young to appreciate it fully (born 83).

I think it was a great time to be a kid and I’d imagine it would have been great to be an adult too. I really hate the world my children are growing up in Sad

Am AMAZED how many people would like to go back to a time pre smart phones, and pre wifi.

Nsky · 15/08/2020 21:20

Def no, I spent most of my 30’s being unhappily married, a son with high functioning Aspergers ( not known then, born in ‘91), hospital visits.
Then a mess if getting school help, bad then.
Decided to leave my ex on New Year’s Eve of 1999

Branleuse · 15/08/2020 21:22

Yes i would. Life felt hopeful

ImFree2doasiwant · 15/08/2020 21:24

In a heartbeat. It was before I ket Stbx. I'd have half a chance of steering clear.

Sunrise234 · 15/08/2020 21:25

Yes I would those were the days!! Bernards watch, the worst witch and the Queens nose my favourite TV shows as a child!

@Bananabread8 OMG I forgot about these! My entire childhood just flashed before my eyes Grin

RunningNinja79 · 15/08/2020 21:29

Born in 1979 here.

If I could go back then hell yeah. So many things I think I'd change, but then I wouldn't have the life I have now.

Then again I don't know if its the 90's in particular I like the idea of or just that carefree time in my life.

Then again the summer of 1996. Best. Summer. Ever!!!!!

I have mixed feelings about this. In some ways, the world seemed a happier place. The cold war had ended, the economy was enjoying a period of growth, unemployment levels were low, and as teenagers we had a sense of hope and optimism that we could be whatever we wanted. On a personal level, however, it feels kind of like a lost decade. I suffered from bouts of sadness and crippling anxiety. I was quite awkward and had zero friends and for a time my parents emmigrated to South America leaving me completely isolated and alone in my hometown. It was a decade of low-paid jobs and slumming it in awful bedsits.
As other ppl have mentioned, it would be nice to go back to that time but with the wisdom and self-assuredness of my 44 year old self.
I often find myself watching TV shows that I used to watch in the 80s and 90s. It's a form of escapism and I find it comforting when I feel anxious about current events.

Bit later, more like 2001 but I’ve been watching series 1 of Teachers in Amazon with a very young Andrew Lincoln. It is so dated, no smart phones, and the scenes at school and in the pub are exactly how I remember it. Massively nostalgic.
I totally agree with pp who said she can cry at re-runs of certain programmes. Friends does that to me, just reminds me of a time when my mum was alive, nostalgia can be great but can also be breathtakingly painful.

I was at uni for the first half of the 90s so I would definitely go back in time. The music was so much better than today - but then maybe every generation says this? However the grunge scene and Brit Pop was just so exciting and fresh and the clubs had a much different vibe to the same clubs ten years later.

Lack of social media meant life was much simpler too and dating was very different as there was no OLD as a PP has mentioned.

TV was good too - I used to watch Ready Steady Cook at tea time and it really taught me some basic cooking skills.

Mustn’t forget the 1997 election and Tony Blair’s Labour Party coming to power. I remember young people being interested in politics for (it seemed) the first time and there was a lot of optimism for the future.

Maybe I look back on the 90s with rose tinted specs but for me, it was a time of opportunity and fun and optimism.

FattyBoom · 15/08/2020 21:39

100% was the best time of my life! Of course I'd want to be the same age....

Busybee434 · 15/08/2020 21:42

Yes I.would in a heartbeat !! I was born in 1976 and was in my prime in the 90's...plse someone build me a time machine !

Bassettgirl · 15/08/2020 21:45

It was a great time to be a teenager, though I was full of angst and spent a fair amount of time wishing it was the 70s.

belvoirbeaver · 15/08/2020 21:46

Without a doubt. I was a teen and it was wonderful.

Nothingforthcoming2020 · 15/08/2020 21:46

I would love to!

wheresmymojo · 15/08/2020 21:50

As long as you're happy knowing you're now that woman you knew in the 90's who always went on about how the world was going to the dogs and she wished it was the 60s still.

Devlesko · 15/08/2020 21:50

No, because as lovely as they were, with such lovely memories it was pretty bleak too.

800msprint · 15/08/2020 21:52

Oh yes

billy1966 · 15/08/2020 21:53

Oh lord yes, but I had 15 years partying, travelling, working and earning a shit load of money across multiple continents...and met my husband during this doing the same...
I am however, paying for it all by by having to raise some late teens in my late 50's...#payback.😬🤣
🙏
The 80's and 90's were amazing

funnyonion1 · 15/08/2020 21:53

In a heartbeat. But I'd rather be a teen in the 90s instead of a kid (I was born late 80s). Was a teen in the early 2000s and it was meh.

NotEvenTheKing · 15/08/2020 21:57

I bloody loved the 90s. I was born in 85. I think growing up in the 90s was a great balance of tech. Video games were great, much simpler. Kids tv was great. Things were more real. I love looking at the houses in 90s tv shows. Everything seemed much more homely. Everything is so pristine these days, I don't like it. Grin

The best shows. Not all this youtube the kids watch today.
RhubarbTea · 15/08/2020 21:59

YES, in a heartbeat. Born 83 here too.

Bath pearls in big jars in the Body Shop and Boots
Shopping at Tammy Girl
Smash Hits mag
Buying the latest singles on tape in Woolworths
Taping the top 40 on a sunday on my cassette player
Fuzzy Peach perfume from the Body Shop
Feeling like the world was safe and kind and everything was going to be alright; a feeling which ended around September 11th 2001 and things just got worse from there.

BrieAndChilli · 15/08/2020 21:59

I was born 1980 so my teenage years were the 90s, I remember it as a much more social time in a way, you actually went out to hang out with friends rather than FaceTime/WhatsApp/instagram etc.

I wonder if it’s just nostalgia for our younger carefree years? Do people born in other decades also feel the same way eg would want to go back to the decade they were teens in?

Jalapinot · 15/08/2020 22:03

In a flash. I fee nostalgic for the 90's all the time. Music, tv, clothes, carefree teen years. Modern life is rubbish.

snowone · 15/08/2020 22:03

82 baby here and HELL yes! I would also do the early 00s again too!!
