The more I think about it the more I would love to go back to that time. I was too young to appreciate it fully (born 83).

I think it was a great time to be a kid and I’d imagine it would have been great to be an adult too. I really hate the world my children are growing up in Sad

Absolutely yes. I was born a December 81, so turned 18 the day before millennium eve. I have so much 90s nostalgia but wish that I could go back to early 90s and live my 20s so I could fully embrace the fashion, rave scene, gigs etc that I understood but was too young for 1st time round

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 15/08/2020 20:05

Heather Shimmer!

emptyplinth · 15/08/2020 20:06

Yes I would. I'd give myself some better careers advice.

Chickoletta · 15/08/2020 20:07

I’m a teacher and teenagers now wistfully ask me to ‘Tell us about the 90s, Miss...’ in the same way that I used to ask my English teacher what it was like to be a teenager in the 60s.

I was born in 1979, so it really was my decade. Happy days. I have a Brit Pop playlist on my phone which I play when I need cheering up.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 15/08/2020 20:13

@Chickoletta same, tbh I listen to more 90's music than anything else

gigglybiz · 15/08/2020 20:13

Well yeah & I would have sacked off uni & just bought a load of property! 🤣. On a serous note I thought the 90s were fab, music, fashion & for me it seemed be the last decade where the youth was separate from the adults if that makes sense. We had our own scene.

Often think it would be fun to have been a 25 yr old partying in the 80s though.

gigglybiz · 15/08/2020 20:14

Born in 83

Cam2020 · 15/08/2020 20:14

Aw yes, for a week or so that would be lovely but only as a tween/teen again. So many lovely memories.

chipsandgin · 15/08/2020 20:15

Fuck yes, without a second of hesitation. If you’ve got a time machine I’m in...although if I could have the youth and beauty back too that would be ace, thanks.. ;)

BertieBotts · 15/08/2020 20:15

No Blush I don't think I could cope without my smartphone, internet, kindle etc. Well maybe I'd be a bit better integrated into real life! I reckon I'd have really struggled with DC pre internet, though.

I also don't think I could live my life now (living in another European country) without the mod cons we have - easy (ish) access to UK TV, Skype/Whatsapp/FB to keep in touch with family, FB for the expat group here, Mumsnet Blush not to mention the instant translate option on websites and instant translator in my pocket at all times - OK, I would probably be better at my host country's language. And I suppose I wouldn't have Brexit to worry about.

If I could rewind and start again in the 90s but be a teenager instead of a toddler I probably would. I would love to have a do over of my late teen years although I'd probably fuck it up just as badly :o Can I take a modern contraceptive implant for my 90s teen self?

SchmooobyDoo · 15/08/2020 20:16

I turned 14 in 1990. What I miss is cultural moments. Like big news stories, blockbuster movies, hit singles, World Cup matches. These events united people & always bring you back to that moment in your life. Everything now is just content...

gigglybiz · 15/08/2020 20:17

When kids dressed like kids- in Tammy clothes- rather than in Zara with a face full of contour

Yes, although my mother thought Tammy girl was far too tacky!

When Saturday night tv was decent

Yes DH was talking about this the other day & asking whether we should start to sit & watch Saturday TV with out dc like we did in our youth. I said I can't because it's so fucking shite!

BabloHoney · 15/08/2020 20:19

I loved the 90s. Loved being able to have a night out without worrying about dreadful photos popping up on social media afterwards. And the music was the best.

gigglybiz · 15/08/2020 20:19

I was born & raised in London so a lot of underage clubbing but it was so exciting & fun, looking back it seems so innocent & I think my adolescence was quite sheltered in some ways. I miss dancing a lot.

Titsywoo · 15/08/2020 20:21

I'd go back for a little trip to enjoy the music and be myself as a teen with the wiser brain of my 40-something self! I still prefer my life as it is now than when I was a teenager. I do wonder how much I remember things with rose-tinted glasses and would be disappointed by seeing it again though!

BackforGood · 15/08/2020 20:23

No!

We didn''t have internet or mobile phones (commonly - I know they existed)

I like being able to walk around with what is, to all intents and purposes a mini computer in my hand. I can look up anything in the world. I can take photos. I can message people individually or chat in a group.
I can MN Grin
I can keep in touch with people I used to have to write to on special airmail paper then take to the post office and wait weeks for a reply.

I can watch what I want on TV, whenever I want to - whether the TV programmers choose to put it on at a convenient time or not.

We've moved a long way forwards in acceptance that homosexual people and heterosexual people are all 'just people'. I know there is still a long way to go in some quarters, but is is massively improved from 25 years ago. Same with having children and not being married.

Timeforakitkat · 15/08/2020 20:23

Oh my gosh, YES! Take me back.

Great thread, shamelessly placemarking! Grin

DustbinTimberlake · 15/08/2020 20:24

Yes. Born ‘85 and recently bought the Baby G watch that I was never allowed in 1998!

I also loved the perfumes, the telly (Goodnight Sweetheart was one of my favourites Grin) and the optimism.

crosshatching · 15/08/2020 20:25

I have a recurring dream where I go back for the beginning of my 3rd year at Uni again and again (96-7). I'd love to go back to that time, do a couple of things differently and have a lot more fun. (Also buy a flat in London when I could've done!!)

WhatsTheFrequencyKennneth · 15/08/2020 20:25

@AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit
Haha heather shimmer yes. Pretty sure they still stock it.

monkeytennis97 · 15/08/2020 20:26

Although my children wouldn't be here I loved the 90s... was completely the right age to enjoy them. Great music, fab fashion, carefree timeSmile

Mrsbclinton · 15/08/2020 20:29

Oh yes I would love to go back and re live the 90s (ages 12 to 22) but with the wisdom and maturity I have now!!!

DustbinTimberlake · 15/08/2020 20:31

I also had a pretty sweet collection of Forever Friends bears back then

needaMNnamegenerator · 15/08/2020 20:31

Yes, in a heart beat!

Vinosaurus · 15/08/2020 20:32

Absolutely - 100% - in a heartbeat. I get almost painful nostalgia about the 90s.
