Any black-out blind recommendations?

We currently have gro blinds up in the kids bedrooms which work really well, but DD is now playing more in her room in the day and it’s annoying either having to take them down and put them back up every night, or have her play in a gloomy room! Looking at getting fitted black out blinds but not sure if they’re really as effective? Anyone have any brand they’d recommend? Thanks!

I got very expensive black out wooden Venetian Blinds and they definitely do not make it black out.

If you happen to go for black out curtains DO NOT buy them from Dunelm. We had 3 pairs for 3 different rooms and all 3 the back went yellow (looked like we were heavy smokers from the outside) in less than 2 years of having them.
They still sell that range now.

Dunelm made to measure black out blinds work well

Blinds2go made to measure ones are really good and a good price. The velux ones we have keep every chink of light out on an east facing bedroom in the morning.

I was actually going to recommend our dunelm ones! Sorry about the above poster who had issues with them! We have a sand coloured curtain, but no light comes through them at all. Had them 5 years and so far, so good. I did get some from argos years ago which faded after a year, and we so thin that the light streamed through the actual curtain.

  • if possible, get the top track as close to the wall as possible and ensure you get curtains that are much wider/longer than needed. Otherwise, you will have a halo effect of light around the window.
  • one room has small, wooden venetian blinds and blackout curtains on top. Its almost completely black in there, whereas the room without the venetians does have a slight halo effect.

We have Ikea blackout blinds that are very effective

Bloc blinds. Expensive but they are actually black out and so worth it

Another vote for Dunelm but the curtain linings not actual blackout curtains Grin
