Buying children's clothing - girls stuff for boys

Why oh why are most online stores (and in store i presume as well), split into 'Girls' and 'boys' categories rather than just age?

Just trying to order our baby some bits in the next size up and it takes twice as long to order as i have to look at baby girls vests, then baby boys vests for example as different stuff in each, and a lot of stuff i would order from either category.

For example just ordered him a plain green cardigan (girl section), and some sleepsuits which are yellow with giraffes, white with pandas, green with crocodiles (girls section). Other basics where in 'boys section', but again I would happily put on a girl if I had one. Everything I ordered seems pretty unisex to me.

I'm not talking about putting him in dresses or very girly pink stuff, but a green cardigan for a 3 month old...

Never really experienced this issue. In my experience, most online stores put the unisex stuff into both categories, so you'll find the same cardigan for example in both the 'boys' and 'girls' sections. In any case, it really doesn't make it that much more difficult to look 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh really? Maybe I am shopping on the wrong sites then. John Lewis/ next/ m and s and those kind of places.

I know some places dont, but it really does take twice as long to look through and choose, especially atm when everything seems to be out of stock in the sizes I want.

With small baby who is going through a fussy phase, anything to simplify the process would be nice. Plus dh forgets to look in the ‘girls’ section often, so we miss anything that might be nice to get. I do dress him in ‘boys’ stuff, but sometimes it’s a bit too pale blue everything

Ignore the categories. Instead put for example cardigan in search bar, select child section, then filter by size.

Not perfect but gets around the boy/girl divide.

(But yes, I prefer children's clothes to be separated by category than sex. Its more logical in store.)

This winds me up so much. On many sites you have to choose from "girls" or "boys" before seeing anything.
