Is it just me that has a weird obsession with hand sanitiser now

Ever since all this Covid stuff started, I’ve become more hygiene aware, as have a lot of people.

I wash my hands more thoroughly with hot water and soap and I now use hand sanitiser more often.

I don’t know why, but I’m really liking the fact that I have to sanitise my hands. I just love walking into a shop and seeing the sanitiser pumps by the door and squirting it on my hands, especially the ones that have the lovely flowery scents, they are soo good.

Am I just completely bonkers or is anyone else the same?

Some of the ones at the front of shops have been diluted to make them go further which makes them useless. I don’t think the shops should have to provide it anyway, it’s not a huge inconvenience to bring your own out, you need to bring your own mask when you go out.

I use it all day at work and much prefer washing my hands but it’s not always possible to get to a sink so yes, you are bonkers OP Smile.

Glad someone else picked up on the ikea ones smelling like Tequila Envy(not envy).

A restaurant I visited the other day had cowshed sanitiser and it was lovely!

The Bills one smells like tequila Envy

We all ended up respraying our hands with the floral one in my bag as the tequila smell was so awful and was putting us off our food.

I love these new hygiene expectations. I love having no one stand close on a queue. I use hand sanitizer whenever I can. Psychology I still need to wash my hands every now and again though because they still feel dirty.

Ikeas hand gel is like low gradeSchnaps. Any recommendations for a really nice one would be welcome.

Mind you, I'm really enjoying my Oliver Bonas hand sanitiser - if you can get past the double entendre, it's Morning Glory scent, and is a flat bottle so fits in a small handbag quite nicely.

My previous favourite was an ancient Soap and Glory one that came in a Christmas set at some point - that smelled amazing but can't find it in the shops.

I’ve been collecting Bath and Body Works pocketbacs for some years now. I wish they’d open a store in the U.K.!

I've always carried a small bottle of hand sanitiser with me for about the past 14 years. Mainly used on days out when we couldn't wash our hands or as added protection afterwards. I now have a little one hanging from my bag and a range of sanitisers for future use including some lovely L'occitane ones my ds bought me. I don't overuse them though as any sanitiser can really dry your hands. Much prefer the automatic ones in shops, i don't really like touching the handpump in a shop or restaurant.

I now have small PPE bags for each member of the family. Gel, masks, hand wipes and clothes spray.
With 2 autistic children it's been tough finding a gel they approve of as the shop ones are so varied. My youngest uses an anti bac wipe when out and then cleans his hands when we get back to the car.
Vaseline also have an anti bacterial hand cream which is lovely.

The Bath and Bodyworks ones are great unfortunately you only get them in America. My son is cabin crew and always gets me loads - but I am coming to the end of my stash and the chance of him going again..or even working...seem unlikely.

I don’t use it. I have eczema and my hands are clear of it after looking after my skin.

I tried it once at the supermarket a d it stung like hell, so pretend to pump it there.

The stuff they use is potent and i get drunk on the stench alone.

@MellieNelba you can buy them off Facebook. There are many sellers who import them to sell.

@Oblomov20

I've gone the other way. Not that I was that clean before. If peas fall on the floor when I'm dishing up dinner, I just pick them up and pop them in my mouth!

I only use shop sanitiser if a security person insists I use it as I enter the shop.

Dh bought some sanitiser home from work. It's barely been used.

Yes! DC say I’m disgusting for eating food of the floor!

The human body is basically made of bacteria. When you douse yourself is this crap your burning off all the good bacteria as well. Better to leave it, eat healthy and exercise. Use the human body as it was meant to used . It comes with an excellent immune system.

I hate hand sanitiser.

I use it when I absolutely have to but otherwise avoid it like the plague. It makes my skin dry and itchy and I'm not convinced it's very good for you to be using it all the time.

@Oblomov20 I'm similar. Out of all my friends I'm probably the most lax with hygiene and I'm the only one that never gets ill. I'm convinced that too much obsessive hand washing actually has the opposite effect as it destroys your immune system. I wash mine when I get home and after going to the toilet, that's it and I don't use sanitizer.
