Because bitter male cucumbers don't bring joy, but phallic aubergines can raise an irreverent smile.

AD chat continues about life, the universe and everything. We know the answer is 42 but what is the question?
6x7?
How many roads must a man walk down?
How many unsadly reincarnations have PHE put into the database?

I cannot for the life of me see how anyone thought it was a good idea to apply an algorithm to this. As you say, it treats kids as statistics not individuals.

You clearly don't work in education! Treating kids as statistics is the name of the game now.

NothingIsWrong · 16/08/2020 18:20

I am back in the office tomorrow. Both excited and a bit apprehensive....

SomewhereEast · 16/08/2020 18:23

@Ghostlyglow

Lots of people who didn't feel safe suddenly lost the fear around here when they could save a tenner on their dinner Wink. I am in Yorkshire though Grin
Yes to this (in Yorkshire too). I think thats all part of the plan. Its hard to argue that returning to work puts you at unacceptable risk when you've just been to Nando's.

That was one of the final staws for me. The amount of time number crunching at the end of the day, and time spent on assessment cycles. Then all the planning and marking to lug home. Back pre-Gove I could get a lot of that done in school and have a home life. Oh and the double marking...

I also thought that was why it was being done - more a carrot to get people out and about more and gain in confidence.

Littlebelina · 16/08/2020 18:27

countrygirl you didn't get the ban hammer then? Attacking that poor bullied soulGrin

Also hate the hoax brigade, think extremists on both ends of the spectrum are damaging.

Good luck tomorrow Nothingiswrong, it's weird at first but then it's wonderful.

Getting tempted to do an epic rant on one of the school threads but ultimately know it'll be pointless

HeIenaDove · 16/08/2020 18:28

Ive never had a Nandos.

Littlebelina · 16/08/2020 18:30

We had our first sit in meal in a restaurant yesterday, was surprisingly normal which was great.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 16/08/2020 18:32

You've missed nothing HeIenaDove.

Littlebelina · 16/08/2020 18:32

@HeIenaDove

Ive never had a Nandos.
Not even a cheeky one.....

I'll get my coat

(In all honesty I think they are OK but wouldn't be the first meal I rushed out for, maccyDs on the other hand...)

@Justgivemewine I agree, the tunnel seems to keep getting longer and longer and longer. First Boris told us "we can turn this around in twelve weeks", and "masks are useless". Then it was mostly back to normal by August, then normal by Christmas; then suddenly he cancelled Eid, perhaps to soften us up for doing the same to Christmas. I wonder what tosh he's going to come out with about Trick or Treating? The Dementors would love to see that banned.

With the conspiracy theories about Bill Gates etc; I'd like to believe they are just conspiracy theories; when I attended the Keep Britain Free protests even I thought many of the theories were fanciful (and I'm a huge government cynic). The fact that Boris hasn't gone all out to enforce quarantine and masks (just saying there are penalties, with little intention of enforcing them) gives a teeny bit of hope, in that perhaps the gov are hoping that it will be temporary enough not to be worth investing in rigorous enforcement, and that the baying mob is happy to do the job. Wink It almost feels better than being in countries where they are "cracking down" on this.

I suppose the big clincher is how it goes with the schools. The government seems committed to September: it's obvious that they were only pretending about June, the public mood was against it, and Boris played his cards so he can say "I tried to let the schools back in June". The dementors are predicting immediate Armageddon for September, just like they did with the beaches and the BLM protests; but if that Armageddon doesn't happen (please please please!), then MAYBE people will start to be less afraid, and the government can make changes to reflect the public mood, because it seems that all that matters now is what the baying mob wants; the government alters the facts to suit them.

There is indeed a glimmer of hope about church choirs, but many of us who sing are bogged down by the ultra-cautious Church of England, as well as the govt.

And I want my netball back, we want to get playing so we can lose weight!!! We keep hearing hints about October, but I'm not holding my breath.

Taswama · 16/08/2020 18:54

Thanks for the choir info. My choir was at work not in a church unfortunately.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 16/08/2020 18:54

Same here, Bog. I caught the last few good years in my first two years I think, then it just got worse and worse. Flight paths Hmm in the last couple of years, all worked from the year 6 SATS. Such an utter nonsense that even Ofsted said they didn't want to see them... After insisting on seeing them for three years of course.

So glad to get out of it.

Ghostlyglow · 16/08/2020 18:58

Just been looking at a thread on AIBU asking how much back to normal life is. The amount of people saying their life is normal or nearly normal again has really thrown me. THIS IS NOT BLOODY NORMAL!!!
Sorry Smile

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 16/08/2020 19:02

@Ibake did I say old? 😲 damned autocorrect- I meant elegant. 😁

Just had a wee jaunt up through the mountains to go fishing. Camper van sellers will have done well this year.

My eldest is due to go on a ski trip with school in feb - I may just need to look upon this as a savings scheme...

These must be people who ordinarily really don't do much at all?! And even so why did their old life include mask wearing?!
Ghostlyglow · 16/08/2020 19:18

Maybe @TrustTheGeneGenie or perhaps they've just convinced themselves. I don't know. I was going to comment on the thread but thought better of it and scurried back over here Grin

SodomyNonSapiens · 16/08/2020 19:21

I think the universities are very worried about numbers this year and most kids will get the uni they want. It doesn't take many deferring to knock their numbers for six. They will have lost a lot of foreign students.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/08/2020 19:22

@TrustTheGeneGenie
Maybe they are professional online cam gimps? So they never go out, all their work is done online and they're always in a mask....

WouldBeGood · 16/08/2020 19:25

I’ve bitten on that thread

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/08/2020 19:26

Regarding conspiracy theories, they are so utterly bonkers I always switch off when people start discussing them.....

I'm sure the Bill Gates one is about him microchipping us so the govt can keep tabs on us.....well, I hate to break it to you dickheads, but if you have a smart phone or use Google or social media or even the sodding Internet....that ship has sailed. Society doesn't need to be microchipped, we readily give away all of our information.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/08/2020 19:38

OK, slightly off topic but just saw this and thought I'd share....

ADs deflower male cucumbers for the Greater Good. All phallic aubergines welcome .
Doobigetta · 16/08/2020 20:03

The thing about the conspiracy theories is, why would they bother? Realistically, Gates et al are already in the position where they can have and do whatever they want. It’s not worth the amount of trouble it would be to get us all living in pods, or whatever the theory is. The status quo means they can ignore us and make money out of us at the same time. They don’t need to change it.

WouldBeGood · 16/08/2020 20:21

Fuck sake, I’m feeling much better about my normal life after reading about the lives of others on the normal thread.

SomewhereEast · 16/08/2020 20:37

Me too! Its quite sad actually. I don't claim to have an incredibly exciting or affluent life, but we have friends we see and enjoy days out & the odd restaurant or cinema trip.
