Which season do you love?

Just that really. Inspired by all the chatter of the heatwave and those who love and loathe it.

Autumn seems to feed my soul. I love it all. The colours and the smell of a bonfire. The clothes and the nights closing in. I also love the other transitional season of spring because the world feels hopeful to me, and the days feel fresh and the lighter evenings are welcome after the winter.

So tell me, what's your favourite season?

Summer all the way. I absolutely love weather like that we've had recently. I always say I was born in the wrong country.

@user5656 you could have read my thoughts. I hate autumn with a passion: everything dying, the harbinger of damp, dark and depression. Ugh.

KingFredsTache · 13/08/2020 18:31

Mine is definitely Spring, the days getting longer, leaving winter behind, the trees starting to grow leaves again. By the time summer actually gets here I'm thinking about September and the nights drawing in again!

MN always delivers with the Autumn/Winter clichés - walking through crispy leaves, candles everywhere, drinking hot chocolate snuggled under a blanket by the fire etc - who actually does that stuff? It's normally just drizzly shite weather and you leave for work in the dark and get home in the dark!

MostShamelessWoman · 13/08/2020 18:34

Can I have half and half? October through to December. It’s colder, I can wear my jumpers and boots. Darker nights. Hats and scarves. The build up of Christmas. Christmas. The smells. The frost in the mornings. Coming home from work to a casserole in the slow cooker and the heating on. Love it all. But hate Jan and Feb as I’m such a Christmas lover it’s a massive come down (although next year will welcome DC2 in Feb!)

Hate summer. Can just cope with spring but once we get past 18/19 degrees I’m pissed off.

Nicolastuffedone · 13/08/2020 18:35

Autumn.....I absolutely love it!

ILiveInSalemsLot · 13/08/2020 19:13

I do like all seasons but seem to have a preference for Autumn. It’s still warm and light enough to go out and about all day and it’s nice to start having soups and stews and hot drinks. I also start to sleep better.
I’ve barely slept the last week or so as it’s so uncomfortable.

@KingFredsTache it’s just normal autumn stuff. It just depends on your point of view. Autumn isn’t drizzly to me. It is all those cosy things you mention, though without the fire. Kids like hot chocolate, I prefer tea. But yes, lots of walks, blankets on the sofa blah blah.

goldpendant · 13/08/2020 20:18

Autumn here too, through to Christmas. We have all our family birthdays concentrated in this period so it's all celebrations, cosy, crisp mornings. I love it.

Delatron · 13/08/2020 20:52

I love Spring, the days getting lighter and the hope of some good weather to come. Spring this year was glorious. Being outdoors all the time.

Summer should be my favourite month and I love warm days but quite often from early August it’s a complete disappointment in this country. Weeks of rain can really get me down when I know we have months of cold and rain ahead for autumn and winter.

This year had been great though.

We really do get far more cold dreary days and for that reason I can never like autumn and winter. Halloween is shit too. And I hate being indoors and don’t do snuggling under a blanket unless I’m ill. How anyone can like Jan/Feb/March I’ll never know.

Delatron · 13/08/2020 20:55

Agree @KingFredsTache like lighting some candles will get you through months of cold and drizzle. Who wants to snuggle (fester?) under a blanket for 6 months. Soup? You can eat soup at any time of the year. And have hot chocolate..

Millie2013 · 13/08/2020 21:01

Spring, absolutely love it! Also love early summer, but late summer/autumn makes me sad.
I like later winter, because spring is on the way.
Strange that I love spring so much, when so many people I love died in March and April
I really want to learn to like autumn, I just don’t know how

chestnutshell · 13/08/2020 21:01

@KingFredsTache I do all those things! I love it. I feel like at some point in mid-November my soul just sings and I'm compelled get out all the candles and have throws strewn over the sofas at all times. Grin

And I honestly don't mind the dark nights for the Oct-Xmas stretch. Halloween and bonfire night would be odd in the daylight and I love Christmas lights. It does get tedious by January though and I'm ready to see spring breaking through.

@Millie2013 I like spring too and this year we lost somebody very close to us in spring. That person also adored spring so I do wonder how I'll feel about it next year.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 13/08/2020 21:22

I say Autumn but actually, I only like September and October. Once the clocks change and it starts getting darker, I don’t like it so much.
It’s not so much the seasons but the darkness that I find rubbish.

AriesTheRam · 13/08/2020 21:27

Spring then Autumn.Spring because my birthday month is April and the weather is usually pleasant.Autumn because of the dark nights, cosy food and Halloween/Bonfire Night for ds.

noswaith · 13/08/2020 21:59

Probably autumn, for the colour. I am also fortunate to be able to go on holiday at that time of year, so things are open but not too crowded, and a lot cheaper than in the summer.

LadyCatStark · 13/08/2020 22:04

Summer
Christmas (which should count as a season on its own!)
Spring=Autumn
Winter

threesecrets · 13/08/2020 22:09

Late spring early summer eg May and June

Leflic · 13/08/2020 22:45

SUMMER.

It’s easy and it’s cheap.

Summer clothes are a vest and flip flops. £10. Every other season is boots, tights, trousers, long shirt, warm layer, coat....a fortune of faff

No heating or hot water really necessary.

Long days and proper light.

I hate autumn. Sullen sun blinding you on both the drive to work and the drive back. Dark at 6pm if you’re lucky Inconsistent weather with the knowledge worse is to come.
And then Spring, so that’s rain everyday until May,

Delatron · 13/08/2020 23:04

I’d love to be able to enjoy getting out of bed in the pitch black but it seems so unnatural. I’m just exhausted and and get so run down in autumn/winter. So many illnesses around. I wish some candles and throws would make it all better.

SapphireSeptember · 13/08/2020 23:23

Autumn for me, I'm an autumn baby, I love Halloween and hot chocolate and how colourful everything is in the autumn and all the lovely things to eat. Smile

pinkmagic1 · 13/08/2020 23:35

I love spring. All the flowers are out, the leaves are coming on the trees and the nights are getting lighter with the promise of long summer evenings to come.
I absolutely detest autumn. Everything is dieing and the nights are drawing in. I just find it so depressing. Once winter proper actually arrives it's not too bad and I just get on with it. I find September and October the most depressing months.

chestnutshell · 13/08/2020 23:44

I do also wonder if those who love Autumn, in particular September had positive school experiences. The feeling of the start of a new term could really mean different things to different people.

thegcatsmother · 13/08/2020 23:57

Autumn as I love the colours, and it begins to get cooler. Spring, as I live in Cornwall and we get all the lovely flowers in the hedgerows from snowdrops to primroses to daffs.

I love the smell of woodsmoke from the chimneys in autumn and the crispness in the air, but like September when we might get an Indian summer, and it is still slightly warm.

Summer you can keep, as I don't like heat or humidity. Winter, as long as I can rug up in thick socks, boots, thermals and have bedsocks and a 13.5 tog duvet on the bed, is bearable.

LadyGAgain · 14/08/2020 00:01

Any season where the sky is blue and the air is warm. So this year, spring was amazing. Summer hasn't been wonderful as July was shite. We often have a decent September. So I can't pick. It just depends. (winter and grey cloudy can do one)

DipSwimSwoosh · 14/08/2020 00:25

Spring. It's full of promise.
Fresh air, new light, longer days, cool breezes. Love it.

Willowmartha1 · 14/08/2020 00:32

100% autumn !!
