What do I need from IKEA?

Any good buys recently? Anything to avoid? I’m off there this evening to buy an office chair but would like to pick up some bits and pieces to make the house look nice too.

If anyone is on this thread looking for IKEA ideas then I highly recommend buying the poang chair frame only (adult or child version) and then ordering a cover for it on Etsy or eBay.

@PoodleMoth

Thanks for the Poang tip ours is despererate for a new cover! I always used to buy batteries at Ikea but the price has gone up and the last couple of lots leaked! I now buy the Amazon basics and they are far superior. My list at the moment; Plants Chopping board Light bulbs (and adaptors if needed) New kallax boxes
@PoodleMoth

Best bargain batteries are Lidl/Aldi. £1.99 for 8 Smile

Natural string bags to hang plants in, if you choose a plant with smaller leaves and longish branches

Yes! And to save faffing about trying to hang them from the ceiling get a nice white non/adjustable tall clothes rail (£7) and hooks to hang them from.

Do NOT get a Lack floating shelf. They are hard to get straight.

Ooooh oooh AND they are selling off the end of line Algot mounted storage series.

£7 shelves going for a quid. Brackets for as low as 50p. Take some paper to design from what is on offer.

Skubb drawer organisers. Amazing. How did we live without them. Similarly, wrapping paper holders. Packing cubes.

I bought some really nice biscuits recently- I found them in the kitchen department. They are like two florentines sandwiched together with chocolate 🤤

It's not a trip to ikea without some tea lights, a bag of meatballs and a crate of kopperburg cider. Last time I also came back with two beluga whales.

PoodleMoth · 13/08/2020 19:47

@GiantKitten thank you! I had never thought to try either of those Smile

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. My bank account is empty but my home is full of ikea goods.

The ones in the blue packet. They taste like a caramel popcorn to me with chocolate. Once the packet is open they're gone in 48 hours. So bloody good.

Pegs for hanging out washing
Socktupus
Laundry bag on a stand
Tea lights
Mugs for tea
Soda glasses
Tea towels
Hand towels
Cuddly toys

If I manage to go in and leave without some of the above it’s a miracle!

Wannabegreenfingers · 14/08/2020 22:08

Err, nothing......

The square blocks of coir - like thick tiles - that expand to make masses of compost.

Cinnamon rolls
Big colander
Roasting tin

The cheap kitchen scissors are better than the expensive ones I bought elsewhere. I have several pairs now including some for the garden.

JaJaDingDong · 14/08/2020 22:32

What don't you need from IKEA?? Grin

Witchend · 14/08/2020 23:19

Don't know what you want, but if you see my will to live could you post it back to me. It hopped off last time I was there halfway up the first escalator. Wink

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2020 23:23

We went today. It was horrid. We had to queue to get in & DH was grumpy so I couldn't browse Grin. I did manage to slip in some Daim bars (only one pack, foolish) & some food bags.

nettytree · 14/08/2020 23:34

Toy pandas. I think we have 4 of them. And an emergency panda at grandma's when my daughter forgot one last year. Always need the batteries and tea lights. And for some reason I have a coffee table in my garage not even built after 2 years.

@Mustbetimeforachange There's your first problem, taking a man to IKEA is never a good idea.

I do try not too, but I knew the boxes I had to get (a bed, can't get them quickly anywhere else at the moment) would be very heavy Grin

@Mustbetimeforachange Fair point 👍.
