Applying for job seekers allowance

I will be made redundant on 14 August (tomorrow) and I will be applying for the contribution based JSA. Does anybody know if I should use tomorrow's date as the start date for my claim or do I need to wait until the day after. I will be receiving a redundancy settlement and I am owed some annual leave as well.

Thanks

Should be first day of unemployment. JSA would be based on your national insurance contributions and is not means tested, so savings won't matter, it lasts 6 months, it's up to you when you decide to start your claim. Might be worth doing immediately as keeps national insurance records straight, and also if ever you needed a DBS check it accounts for the "gap" between jobs. Good luck
