Is this normal for recovery from appendicitis?

I had my appendix out 3 weeks ago. Wounds all healed fine. But I'm still getting pain where my appendix was. Also if I take laxatives I go to the toilet but it's really loose. If I don't take them I don't go. Getting a doctor's appointment is really difficult at the moment and I don't know if I'm just expecting too much too soon.

Doesn’t sound like my experience post appendicectomy. I had no issues with my bowels whatsoever

Did you appendix burst, before it was removed? Mine burst and I had a very slow recovery and was in pain for quite sometime. I could not return to work for 6 weeks. I also took laxatives for about 4 months.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Do try and get a doctors appointment, just to give you some reassurance. Thanks

Thanks for responding. I'm going to try for an appointment tomorrow. @simplyredfan I have no idea what state my appendix was in as I didn't see a doctor after the operation. I am getting worried now but fully expecting to be brushed off by the doctor.

Do you have a fever or feel unwell generally? If so it may be an infection which you may need a course of antibiotics for.

But otherwise remember that whilst the outside scars are small, inside you’re still healing and a part of your digestive system has been removed so it may take time to adjust.

I had my appendix out about 10 years ago and was off work for 7 weeks!!

Ask the GP to review your discharge summary. I really feel for you, but things will get better. I was very impatient....so I know it's frustrating.

Laxatives always make me have liquid stools. They aren’t good for you either so it’s worth speaking to doctor about that at least.

I remember having that 'phantom' appendix oain afterwards- lasted a while but cant recall exactly for how long. But it did go away.
