Dentist today.. scared

I need some comforting stories!

I'm going to the dentist today and I'm being sedated for the treatments, should take about an hour but I'm petrified. I've been scared of the dentist for years. How is it being sedated? Will I be okay? I feel so sick!

I’ve not been sedated, but I’ve had plenty of dental work done with injections. I’ve got several crowns and this morning I’ve had another one fitted. No injection, no pain. I’ve got two more appointments and one will be to remove the stump of a crown that fell out ( done by a different dentist).

I can’t say I look forward to it, but it needs to be done. I’ve had a wisdom tooth removed in the past too and had to drive a long way straight after.

It’ll be fine!

I was sedated to have my wisdom teeth out. I remember them saying hi to me then I remember sitting in the waiting room while DH brought the car around to go home. It was a great experience and nowhere near as stressful as I expected. Good luck.

I have a phobia of going to the dentist and has to be sedated a few years ago to have my wisdom teeth out.

I was very nervous but it was an absolute dream, I think it was a drop in my arm, I don't remember anything at all, you'll be fine

Hey OP, like you I'm terrified of the dentist. I had sedation via IV to have wisdom teeth out a year or so ago - it was the best dental experience I've ever had. I remember being ridiculously nervous before hand, saying hi to them, sitting in the chair, got the IV in and the dental nurse started having a conversation with me...I didn't get past the first few words and zzzz. Next thing I was being asked to phone my DH to come and collect me!

Any future work like that and I have absolutely no hesitation in asking for sedation. Good luck x

Not long to go... just remember that those giving sedation see lots of people every day who are terrified. If they ask u how u are feeling, be honest and don't just say fine. Maybe try and sit someone where quiet for a bit and zone out - maybe with some music, or just in the peace and quiet, take deep breaths. Won't be long, and you'll literally be in and out before you know it x

Crossincontinents · 12/08/2020 12:56

@DownstairsMixUp Sedation is lovely. You will be fine. Have you considered trying hypnotherapy to help you relax at the dentist? It can be very effective.

God I'm waiting to... surgical extraction after the dentist snapped my wisdom tooth. Good luck x

Crossincontinents · 12/08/2020 14:28

Just concentrate on breathing and try and stay calm. You are in safe hands and before you know it will be all done.

Good on you, Op! I have massive dental phobia so I know what you were feeling. Great to hear that you've found a dentist that you trust to take such good care of you. ❤️ You'll have a great sleep tonight, I'm sure!
