Sons willy has swollen! Help

He’s just come in the front room and said his willy hurts. Had a look and it’s ballooned at the end as if something is wrapped around it and looks very very red and sore. Just had a google and it looks like it must be Balanitis. He reckons it’s only just started hurting. Does he need to see a doctor now or can it wait till the morning? Times like this I wish his dad was around to tell me!

Give 111 a call?

caramac04 · 11/08/2020 21:19

Definitely seek advice tonight. Agree 111 but if swelling gets worse then A&E

Yearinyearout · 11/08/2020 21:24

Sounds like balanitis, will need antibiotics. My DS had it when he was about 6.

My ds has had similar. Got antibiotic cream but salt water baths often helped a lot too.

Bloomburger · 11/08/2020 21:26

DS had this and needed to be circumcised after a short course of antibiotics. A nice bath and some paracetamol might help until you can see a doctor.

itsgettingweird · 11/08/2020 21:27

My son also had balonitis.

Ring 111. It can be serious.

They are likely to send antibiotics to pharmacy as a first start for this evening and may suggest actually having a check up tomorrow.

slipperywhensparticus · 11/08/2020 21:27

are you sure nothing is wrapped around it?

Can he still pee?

16more · 11/08/2020 21:31

Just spoke to 111 and they’re saying he needs to be seen tonight. Looks really sore

Yeah it's really horrible. Antibiotics will sort it. Poor wee chap.

FenellaMaxwell · 11/08/2020 21:34

Did you check for a hair tourniquet?

Grandmi · 11/08/2020 21:35

My son had this problem and had to have GA to reduce his foreskin...AE Asap!! Hope he feels more comfy later .

16more · 11/08/2020 21:36

@FenellaMaxwell yes I was hoping that’s what it was but can’t see anything. Shone a torch on it and it just looks like it’s going to pop. Doesn’t help that I’m squeamish though

Are you sure it is balanitis and not phimosis or paraphimosis (look at some pics), these can be an emergency, phone 111 if it looks like this.

Oly4 · 11/08/2020 21:40

I’d go to A&E for this

namesnamesnamesnames · 11/08/2020 21:42

Poor love, how awful. Hope he's better very soon.

16more · 11/08/2020 21:52

@Choconuttolata could well be. But not sure it’s swelling in the right place or not? We’re off to a+e now anyway so will see what they say.

optimisticpessimist01 · 11/08/2020 21:54

Ow bless him. I'd take a trip to A&E, I had to go recently and was in and out within half an hour

Hope everything's ok. And hand hold for you because it's a scary thing being told your child needs to go to hospital Thanks

EnoughAlready2020 · 11/08/2020 22:07

Pls don't worry. My son had this and it turned out he needed a circumcision. It's quite scary especially if your son has never had surgery but it was over so quickly and my son is so much happier now it's fixed.

BenoneBeauty · 11/08/2020 22:22

Hope your DS is ok.

Elmo311 · 11/08/2020 22:26

I hope he will be ok x

frustrationcentral · 11/08/2020 22:29

Ah poor chap! Hope he's feeling better soon

ohfourfoxache · 11/08/2020 23:42

Oh bless him Sad

Hope he’s more comfortable soon

16more · 12/08/2020 00:39

Thank you everyone xx we’ve been seen now just waiting for anti biotics. @Choconuttolata it was indeed phimosis!
