Best way to spend Tesco and Sainsbury’s vouchers?

caravanshed · 11/08/2020 17:36

Been lazy and haven't noticed how many points I have accumulated so I have £100 worth of Sainsbury’s pints and £160 of Tesco points.

Any tips for the most economical / best way of spending these ? I guess taking money off the weekly shopping isn't going to be none of them!
Thanks

Good to use towards uniform for dcs and Tesco also do days out vouchers if that’s something you’re interested in. Alternatively, both do some lovey home bits too.

Brucie0Bonus · 11/08/2020 17:45

I save mine for the Christmas food and drink shop

BlogTheBlogger · 11/08/2020 17:48

Ive been building up my plates and cups after years of chipped ones with the Denby collection. Gorgeous stuff and lovely to have free stuff that will last. I buy items in the "seconds" bit, no idea why they are seconds, look perfect to me.

That and cineworld vouchers are great too

On previous sainsbury threads people said flights, buying kitchen hardware... Clothes and the Xmas shop.

Tesco, not sure but when we shopped there more and had more, we had some amazing days out with the dc. Would not have been able to afford it without tesco vouchers.
Eg London zoo, Whipsnade zoo, Warwick Castle etc

Longdistance · 11/08/2020 17:58

I save mine for 25% off TU event to buy school uniform. That it for Christmas shopping.
The Tesco vouchers I don’t really use, but might buy some wines when my vouchers come through.

PotatoPlant · 11/08/2020 18:03

Definitely use the Tesco vouchers for days out.

caravanshed · 11/08/2020 21:21

I'm liking the days out idea. Can you use them for hotel stays?

OP posts:
modgepodge · 11/08/2020 21:24

Not sure about hotels. But can definitely do Merlin days out, the vouchers are worth 3x as much as face value. I had £20 vouchers, which converted to £60 to spend at Chessington which got my husband, toddler and I in for the day.

Sainsbury’s do a double points event at certain times of the year, often October I think. Your points are worth double on lots of different items (not food though). Includes clothes, homeware, wine etc. We always get wine.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 11/08/2020 21:38

Yes - definitely hold our the Sainsbos ones for the double points. I have got lots of kids Xmas presents that way in the past.

ninebiscuits · 11/08/2020 21:39

@caravanshed I think you can still spend the vouchers on hotels. In the past I saved enough for a weeks hotel stay in fuertenventura and a city break in Prague. Check the rates though, as last time I tried they had a website rate, and a tesco customer rate which was annoyingly a lot higher!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/08/2020 21:40

I think I've read that you can use Tesco Vouchers at Booking.com?

ratspeaker · 11/08/2020 21:41

I use my Tesco club card voucher to pay for Now tv subscription, you treble value.
So during lockdown we've had now tv entertainment package and cinema pass and it's not cost me a penny

StationView · 11/08/2020 21:43

You can buy railcards with Tesco ones. Boring but useful.

ratspeaker · 11/08/2020 21:45

secure.tesco.com/clubcard/spend-vouchers

Have a read through

picklemewalnuts · 11/08/2020 21:50

We always do meals out with them.

Hairthrowaway · 11/08/2020 21:51

Dunno about economical but I actually bought some home items from Sainsbury’s recently (mainly plants). Shocker for me as they’re not usually my thing

Hairthrowaway · 11/08/2020 21:52

Sainsbury’s homeware that it

MissBridgetJones · 11/08/2020 21:54

We save our sainsbury points all year for Christmas when the double points event is on. Like previous posters have said, they don't work on food, but toys, homeware, wine, clothes, perfume/aftershave- brilliant!

nettytree · 11/08/2020 22:01

Used tesco vouchers for meals out and railway discount cards. But next time I'm using them at Portsmouth maritime museum. Have also got the cadw pass for castles etc in Wales.

caravanshed · 11/08/2020 22:46

Thank you everyone! I'm off to have a look at all your ideas. Smile

@BlogTheBlogger thank you for the Denby mention. I managed to replace a few bits and pieces id accidentally broken over the last nearly 15 years. For a fivers postage. I'm delighted

BlogTheBlogger · 11/08/2020 23:03

@Hazelnutlatteplease ah that's great! I love their items, am slowly building a nice collection Grin

sobersides · 12/08/2020 00:56

I use my Tesco points for nice meal treats. I'm tempted by the delivery saver this time as the slots have become so expensive.
