How long before Scientology is exposed?

I've been watching Leah Riminis documentary, surely at some point this cult will be properly exposed?

What do you mean by 'exposed'? A lot of it is widely known, there's been a ton of documentaries. The Louis Theroux one is good.

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/08/2020 17:03

Exposed to whom? Most people get that it’s a cult, who do you think doesn’t?

I have to disagree about the Louis doc, I thought it was his worst piece of work and really irritating. But there are some very good and enlightening ones out there and you’re obviously clued up now so who are you worrying about?

MrsKingfisher · 11/08/2020 17:04

Yes it has been exposed, I guess I mean when will something be done about it?

Nothing will be done about it, they have a massive celeb following, huge amounts of money and are well established.

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 17:10

It's been widely 'exposed' many many times yet people (rich people!) seem to like it.
Same with that Fundamentalist Mormon lot. How many times has it been 'exposed' that the men get to have as many wives as they want and those wives are often very much younger than their 'husbands'.
We know. It's out there. If no laws are being broken what can society do?
(In the case of the Fundamentalist Mormons they have been told it's fine to have as many wives as you want as long as they understand that the marriages aren't legal and the 'wives' mustn't be minors at the age of 'marriage' Hmm)

Swelteringmeltering · 11/08/2020 17:11

Isn't that relevant to all religions though? Just scientology seems to take more money and is more threatening.

Lelophants · 11/08/2020 17:22

There's not much you can do about it because people have a right to think what they like. Plus a lot of it is in USA so 🙄 considering you can wave the confederate flag over there and in some states you can still have set with animals (I love the states BTW!! My point is they don't like being told what to do).

Germany once didn't let Tlm Cruise in due to it, am I right?

bookmum08 · 11/08/2020 17:23

At least Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes and Leah Riminis got out.

Pillypocket666 · 11/08/2020 17:44

Isn't Catholicism worse?

MrsKingfisher · 11/08/2020 17:44

It's batshit, will we ever find out where Shelly Miscavige is I wonder.

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/08/2020 17:55

Even the man who invented said it was batshit. But it gave him an excuse to live on a yacht with lots of women.

Basically everyone knows it is the product of a sci fi writer's imagination. They stick to it because they gain from it, well the men seem to.

It doesn't need exposing, what could be done about it? It's a cult, freedom and f expression, a registered religion, maybe even a charity.

Oh and it's mainly in America!

Hotandknackered · 11/08/2020 18:51

I think it's already been exposed. Who would do something? Do you mean like banning it's practice? I'm not sure how that could be banned and other religions not. Particularly something like catholocis with systemic sexual abuse. I agree scientology is awful, I feel it prays on the vulnerable and easily influenced. But I'm not sure it's loads worse than other regions just a bit more batshit perhaps?

Not with their army of lawers.
