Pax wardrobes, anyone got them?

Well I'm sure lots have, but does anyone want to talk about them? Grin

I'm just planning a bedroom refit and Pax seem like good value, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the options.

Has anyone got the shallow ones and use them instead of a chest of drawers, do the baskets hold much? And the shoe racks?

I can only fit the shorter ones in, are they adequate for a double hanging rail?

Any top Pax hacks or tips for a novice?

No hacks I'm afraid - but youtube is full of those.

We have six 50x50x236 for 4 more or less adults. They have survived one move and are still sturdy and stable after 20 years of use.
We have shelves, baskets, drawers and rails but not the shoe racks (shoes are in a different place) or any of the other more specialized fittings. There is ample room for our clothes, bed linen and seasonal clothing.
I would like new doors but as the old ones are still in order, I won't get them.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Thanks for that, they sound pretty bomb proof then!

I think maybe I just need to brace myself for a trip to Ikea Sad

Have you tried the pax planner on the website? It’ll tell you exactly how much of each product you’ll need

Love mine. We've got the taller ones and dh has actually made them look built in. Quotes for getting ones made was nearly 2k.I've got exactly what I wanted and the same look for 400.Good and sturdy

Get baskets instead of drawers. We have lots of pax in our house.

They have changed the drawer design and the quality is shit compared to the older ones. They sag as soon as you try to put clothes in them.

Dd has the shorter ones and I don’t think they’d manage for double hanging space....I guess if you were only hanging shirts, short skirts.....certainly no dresses. Hers aren’t the shallow depth ones but the normal depth ones.

We went for the sliding door option which is great. The little flat tray with the glass top is great for sunglasses, belts, etc.

Just done an order for some Pax wardrobes. It's definitely worth going in to have a look and seeing what works best. We have had a corner one for 10 years and it's lasted really well. The baskets (which are half the price of drawers) do hold a lot. I'm ordering a shallow one too, with front facing hanger poles. In the show room, they had extendable poles, but they seem to have been replaced by an insert with two rails. I don't think they hold as much hanging clothes as full depth ones at all, so you may want to compensate with more shelves/baskets. Didn't think the shoe racks were worth it. You would get more shoes in boxes on a shelf. Managed to get a delivery slot for the end of the month, but had to switch colour on one unit otherwise it wasn't available.

We have one in our box room, it’s a tall one and the double hanging rail ends at 210cm from the floor as there is a storage space above it, not sure how high the shorter Pax is

KitKatastrophe · 11/08/2020 18:51

The Pax planner is awful, a really crappy bit of software for such a big company to be using. I just drew it out on squared paper to work out what we could fit in where.

The drawers are nice and deep and have a built in soft close and the baskets are a similar size so it just depends what you want aesthetically (and baskets are cheaper)
For me the best thing is it can be chopped and changed. My husband was working an office job so we had a hanging rail and trouser hangers. He is now working from home for the foreseeable future and has a new job where they dress casually - so we have bought more drawers and got rid of the trouser hanger. I needed an extra shelf so just bought one and put it in - no need for a whole new wardrobe... it's really versatile

I have the shallow very tall ones in my sons' bedroom. Some shelves at the top, the pull out hanging rails, and 3 basket drawers at the bottom.
If I were to put clothes away, everything would fit. But I don't, so things get stuffed in any which way.
I've had to refit the door slides a couple of times, due to said stuffing, but they've always been fixable, and still look really smart.

ds has 3 baskets and 1 rail. No shoe rack. The baskets are roomy

I love ours. They are in a separate room so we don't have doors aside from one full length mirrored door. Versatile and fit so much in. I would buy them again.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply.
I've worked out we've about 125cm each of the deep ones (mostly double rails but a bit of longer hanging space for me) then a shallow wardrobe each of shelves / baskets etc - that'll be grand won't it, plenty enough?

Pax are fantastic and fit loads more in than normal wardrobes

ItchyScratch · 11/08/2020 23:10

Yep! 3 bedrooms all with PAX wardrobes here so I feel like an expert.

4 years on two have needed repaired 3 times (those two both happen to be in the kids rooms- young teens)
Where as mine is going strong.
The issue is the doors being pushed the wrong way & the basket drawers eventually fall out.

However for the price and practicality I do recommend them.

The trouser rails are crap- don’t buy. I got rid of mine and replaced with drawers- which is the beauty of the pax system.

We have the very tall and deep ones with mirrored fronts.
