The DC have roped me into doing the Harry Potter marathon tomorrow. We're starting at 6am. How to make it bearable?!

We love HP. The DC and I have read the books together 3 times. I don't know how they talked me into this though - apparently it's going to start at 6am and go through till 2am Shock

Anyone done it? Anyone got any tips? I will be enforcing screen breaks throughout I think!

Surely if you enforce screen breaks it’ll be even longer??

No advice apart from try and snooze

ouch321 · 10/08/2020 22:23

How fun! That's a sweet thing to do together.
Lots of water.
Lots of snacks ready.
Takeaway menus.
Somewhere comfy to sit for hours on end!

tiredanddangerous · 10/08/2020 22:24

I would love to do this!

Fuck that. Time for a new family I'd say.

YorkshirePud1 · 10/08/2020 22:26

Sounds pretty great to me 🤷🏼‍♀️ Although I'd personally prefer to do it on a cold wintery day, cosied up under some blankets. Just make sure you have lots of cold drinks and ice cream - it's going to be a hot and sticky one ⚡️

Nighttimeworries · 10/08/2020 22:27

So would I, I've not heard about it.

RainbowMum11 · 10/08/2020 22:28

Sounds a perfect way to spend a stormy day!!
I would bring blankets and pillows down to be comfy, plenty of snacks and drinks.
Maybe a HP bingo game or general knowledge quiz as you go through?

Pikachubaby · 10/08/2020 22:29

Stay awake all night, then sleep through it Wink

TheChosenTwo · 10/08/2020 22:30

I can’t imagine anything more hellish Grin
Mainly because I don’t watch films and don’t have a long enough attention span to last more than about 30 minutes!!
However, can you do a bit of online shopping on your phone sneakily? A bit of snoozing? Offer to go out and make the meals? Drift off and go and do some washing? Anything!
That amount of screen time would zombify most people, surely after a few they’ll be just as bored as you?!

Gubbeen · 10/08/2020 22:30

I’d replace my children, to be honest, imagine having to face all that stage school over-enunciating and about 40% of senior UK thesps phoning it in in funny hats at 6 am.

You’re a nicer mother than I am...

ButteryPuffin · 10/08/2020 22:31

Don't start at 6am

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/08/2020 22:33

Oh lordy! I'm a fan but even I would struggle with that.

I'd plan to nap through 5 (the worst one) with a secondary snooze through some of 7.

Order a McDonald's breakfast, then enough Dominos to see you through the rest of the night.

Maybe consider swapping rooms every third movie if you have the option

Once it gets to 6pm, add in drinking games rules for the adults.

itsgettingweird · 10/08/2020 22:33

That's the sort of thing my ds suggests.

I love HP but .......

We is usually do it over 2 days!

I think it's lovely but my survival tip is drink lots of water - if nothing else it gives you an excuse for a loo break. And then whilst you're up you may as well do x y and z!

NoSquirrels · 10/08/2020 22:33

Aww.

I love a bit of HP but I hate those early movies and no fucking way I’m up for 6am for the privilege. So I’d suggest striking a deal -in return for missing HP1, you’ll be making HP themed breakfast for the intermission, and during HP2 you’ll be creating snacks etc in the kitchen for subsequent movies... no one is supposed to see the House Elfs working, after all.

MojoJojo71 · 10/08/2020 22:34

It’ll be awesome. Draw the curtains, turn all the lights off and pretend you’re at the cinema. Curl up in the sofa together under a blanket with lots of snacks and have fun!

I have fond memories of when DS and I used to have Star Wars marathons when he was younger

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/08/2020 22:35

Have a points system - continuity errors get 10 points. 5 points for every scene where Emma Watson mouths the other actors lines.

Put a wizard's hat on the corner of the telly and every time it's perfectly placed to sit on someone's head you all have to swap seats etc.

PerspicaciaTick · 10/08/2020 22:37

Bingo cards for each movie? myfreebingocards.com/movies/harry-potter
Comfy pillows for napping?

Bringonspring · 10/08/2020 22:37

I would love this, though maybe not in the heat!!

IHeartKingThistle · 10/08/2020 22:41

Awesome ideas! (And I'm chuckling at the negative comments Grin)

Yeah I have tried to put them off till November when it'll be a nice snuggly thing to do but it's on their list for this summer and that's the end of it. To be fair it's going to be 32 again tomorrow and we're all over it - it's too hot to go anywhere anyway!

I've just moved all the sofas and chairs into a massive U shape in front of the TV. Definitely doing the wizard's hat and the points system, and I feel drinking (for me) may be necessary at some point Grin

I napped during Goblet of Fire when we did this.

Blankets, snacks, easy lunch and dinner, drinks and toilet breaks at the parts you don't like.

My kids loved it and want to do it again this winter.

SuperPixie247 · 10/08/2020 22:43

Aww my DS is only 4 but I would love this if he was older. Sofa snuggles, snacking all day, no pressures. Amazing!

IHeartKingThistle · 10/08/2020 22:44

DS (11) reckons he'll stay awake for the whole thing. I don't believe him.

IHeartKingThistle · 10/08/2020 22:52

@PerspicaciaTick those cards are amazing!
