The DC have roped me into doing the Harry Potter marathon tomorrow. We're starting at 6am. How to make it bearable?!

We love HP. The DC and I have read the books together 3 times. I don't know how they talked me into this though - apparently it's going to start at 6am and go through till 2am Shock

Anyone done it? Anyone got any tips? I will be enforcing screen breaks throughout I think!

I could not sit down for that long.
Anyway, mine start exchanging blows shortly into any film. We don't do cosy movie evenings 😬.

There was a cinema in Newcastle, the one down near the central station, that used to do all night showing of e.g. Arnie films or fantasy films or horror or sci fi. We all just got pissed.

There was a 'shout out' tradition where, when the credits rolled, everyone shouted out the first name of the actor in unison. It's quite funny hearing a whole cinema shouting 'Bob!'

We'd emerge at dawn, blinking into light, to stagger home to bed.

@jamie I remember that - I saw Halloween parts 1-5 one October 31st. We all wore fancy dress. It must have looked like a zombie apocalypse at the Haymarket Metro Station the next morning 🤣

I too thought it was some sort of HP themed walking tour. 26 miles around London or whatever, ticking off certain sites. Like orienteering or geocaching.

Take bets on who will fall asleep first. Or better still do one or two films a day for the next week. Or even better, wear noise cancelling headphones and read a book if it's not your thing. Or just have a snooze.

@cafenoirbiscuit Grin Do you remember which cinema it was? It's all changed so much.

You're doing well, @IHeartKingThistle. Only another million hours to go.

Until 2am?! Are you taking breaks between films?

How lovely though, so far I am the only Harry Potter nerd in the house. I re read the books every year. Not as fussed about the films but will watch when they are on Smile

That sounds like my dream (winter time though, not summer)! Can’t wait till DD is old enough to do this.

Bloody hell. Hope my kids never want to do this! I do like HP but even I cant watch tv for that long...

OP you and your kids have given me the perfect plan for if my birthday or Christmas is very limited in who I can see this year (live alone and was dreading a solo Christmas!). I'd probably split over two days. But you've made me very happy even if you aren't thrilled right now Grin

I'm laughing at the poster who immediately responded regarding screen breaks. What a party pooper. Imagine not being able to chill out enough to watch a bunch of movies for ONE day Hmm

That said, this is definitely a 2 day event for me!!

I hope you enjoy your day and have plenty snacks OP Grin

Reminds me of ds1 insisting on a Star Wars marathon the day after boxing day. I found things to do during Attack of the Clones.
He ran out of puff after Empire. Six films in a day is a lot!
We caught up with Return and then Force Awakens the following day. He didn't feel like Last Jedi at all.
I have a popcorn maker and we ran out of popping corn and used a lot of syrup in the slushie maker.

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito tbh I never really saw the attraction as he's not really my type. He is still a handsome man though I suppose.

Oh this sounds like a great way to spend a day!

I’m a nanny and about 7 years ago did this with my charges when I was doing an overnight and the little ones were away. We did a big buffet that they grazed on for the day, took no screen breaks and they stayed up until 3am

7 years later, at 18 and 21 they still talk about how much they loved it and it’s one of their best memories (which is v sweet!). You’ve brought back v fond memories for me OP!

My (grown up) girls love HP and this makes me happy.

Hope you’re still enjoying it!

I guess it depends how we choose to spend a day 'chilling out', I love a lazy day ....but just not in front of a screen (unless it's Mumsnet Grin).

My friends and I did this just after we finished our GCSEs (on the same night as Prom, which we were not keen on - we called this our "Harry Potter Anti Prom"). It was before the last film came out, so not a true marathon, but we did watch Deathly Hallows Part 1 twice because I hadn't seen it before, so we watched it first so I was awake enough to see it, and then again at the end.

I think we started about 4pm, had dinner with my friend's family after the Deathly Hallows Part 1, then started properly about 7pm. I remember falling asleep during the third task in GOF, then waking up about twenty minutes in to OotP, then falling asleep again, and waking up just as my friend changed the DVD to HBP. We finished around 11am, then got the hour long bus back to school for a choir rehearsal!
