What are you all doing about school shoes?

Clarks shoes never fit DS, we usually have to traipse off to Russell and Bromley to find some school shoes that are actually comfortable. But our local branch isn't opening up their children's department. Tempted to get a cheap pair from Asda to tide us over.

If you buy from Schuh they have a 365 day returns policy so I've ordered two styles each in the size I think DD will be and the next size up just in case and will return whichever ones we don't end up going needing

One son is a size 9 at the moment so I ordered the air step shoes from m&s in sizes and 9.5. I've light a foot gauge so will measure my younger son who still has the startrite shoes so again I'll order two sizes then nearer to September I'll send the two pairs I don't need back.

I got some from Asda last year and they were awful. Fell apart in about 3 weeks. I really wouldn't recommend them.

Booked an appointment in Charles Clinkard, they have a range of brands.

Going to a local independent shoe shop - my daughter has awkward feet and they just know exactly what will fit her and do the job. They normally last until she out grows them!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 10/08/2020 22:50

Tried tongontonclarks today the queue was mental so might get some cheap and cheerful shoes to see is through til half term only bought the last pair just before lockdown which is v annoying as they no longer fit.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 10/08/2020 22:51

Sorry about typos!!

@Maryann1975

A couple of years ago, dd grew out of her shoes in the June, so I bought her tesco shoes to get her through till the end of term. They didn’t even last the month. Don’t waste your money on cheap shoes if you can afford better quality. They end up looking tatty really quickly and generally fall to bit, so complete false economy. There must be an independent shoe shop nearby. I know most people seem to use Clark’s as a go to, but I think most larger towns still have an independent shoe seller who would be able to sort a pair of school shoes out for you.
We had the opposite with Asda. DD once lost her school shoes (don’t ask!) so only option was to buy a cheap pair from Asda (£15).

That Asda pair lasted her 18 months!! Couldn’t believe it. Her feet luckily didn’t grow at that time and they were patent and seemingly indestructible. It was mad. Best school shoes ever Grin

I bought a foot measure thing so I can measure ds' feet myself. I have got him Clark trainers and kickers school shoes online and they all seem to fit.

lotusbell · 10/08/2020 23:15

Oooh where from, @bluezzzzz?

DelurkingAJ · 10/08/2020 23:31

We’ve just had two pairs from Treads delivered (recommended here). Couldn’t face town...fit is as good as Clarks for my two.

Found a black trainer style shoe that they had had and liked a couple of years ago on the Clark’s outlet webpage (sells off old stock from a few years ago), bought a size up from their last pair of school shoes and they fitted. Child is a reliable width so have now bought same shoes in the next 2 sizes too. Sorted.

I got my son who is in year 1 the scala bloom from clarks and they seem to fit him perfectly
