Hi all, we are a terrace property on the edge of a housing estate and our neighbours two doors down live on the corner. They are retirement age although I believe an older son lives with them. They are always pleasant to us and we say hello. The problem we have is in the summer they sit in their front garden, as their back garden is very small and has a huge hedge, so no sun. Also, they keep chickens in the back garden. The sound of the chickens are not a problem. They also have two dogs. When they sit in the front garden in the summer, watching the traffic and the world go by, often the dogs are out there with them and EVERY time someone walks past their house or on the other side of the road, particularly with another dog, their dogs go nuts and start high pitched barking, this can go on for several mins. It is not all the time but happens frequently and they have got the the stage where they either ignore the barking or shout at the dogs to shut up, which the dogs just ignore. I recently had a online shopping order delivered and when the dogs saw the van and the driver they went nuts and started barking. It is hot weather so people have doors and windows open. The other day one of their smaller dogs got out of the garden and shot across the road chasing a larger dog which it had seen walking past with its owner. We live next to a busy road and fortunately there were no cars coming as I dread to think what would have happened if there was a car coming round the corner? I am fed up hearing these dogs barking a lot but more importantly I am worried as to why the dogs have this high pitched barking?. Is it a defence, a hello, go away, or are they distressed? I am worried it will get to the stage where one of the dogs may get out and bite someone? This is the third summer we have heard it and it seems to be getting worse every summer. I don’t want to have a disagreement with the neighbours but it seems to get worse every year. Any suggestions? Thank you. Sorry for the long post...
