BA return leg cancelled - outbound tomorrow - what now for refund?

Posted on short haul but need some advice as outbound flight is tomorrow.

DDs return flight has been cancelled. The outbound is tomorrow and she now can't go as alternative return flights are prohibitively expensive.

I've gone to manage booking and it says I can cancel or change booking but the options at the bottom are "Request Voucher" or "Change Booking". From the FAQs, the voucher can only be used by phoning and I can't even get into the queue on the phone - it just says call back later - so how do I get a refund? Has anyone had any recent success getting a refund rather than a voucher please? I know I had a similar situation with EasyJet recently and after digging around, found the link to get a refund, and have since received it so wondered if BA has similar buried away online?

Have a look on the Flyertalk BA forum - I’m sure there’s a sticky post about this exact situation. Google will point you in the right direction.

We had this with our flight and hotel package in July with BA, although with more notice than your DD. When I got the first message that the return leg wasn't operating, there wasn't an option to do anything, so I sat tight (we weren't going to go). Then a few weeks later and still prior to departure from the UK, I got another message offering to rebook the trip for a different date, get a voucher or get a refund. I went for the refund and got it within a week or so. Slightly different scenario to you but they ARE refunding.

Thanks@loeliaponsonby - I'll take a look and @stillbloodyrainig - that's really helpful.

I seem to manage OK getting through to BA on chat, rather than phone (don't ask me for a link though, always takes a bit of fiddling from their 'contact us' page!).

They will give a refund if asked, so don't accept the voucher if that's what you want.

I get a chat box bottom right on this page: www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/incident/coronavirus/latest-information

Have your booking reference to hand.

(You need to fiddle with the reply bot until you get an option for 'connect me to live agent'.)

Easyjet the same.

Phone 0800 727 800 for a refund instead of a voucher. I phoned four times before I got through. They cancelled our outgoing flight but when I phone she refunded both of them, no questions. Good luck

That's cheeky. For easyJet, one of our flights out of two was cancelled (outbound i think but can't remember). In exchange they offered us to rebook the trip entirely. BA should do the same, I'd definitely push for that. I agree she probably shouldn't travel until a return flight is sorted for definite. Sorry I can't be of more help.
