Little bird

Has somehow landed on my garden path. First thing this morning it was lying down but over the course of the day has perked up and is now chirping loudly for help. No idea of breed but the only birds this close to the house over the past few days have been goldfinches and I’ve seen them today but they haven’t attempted to feed it. All our other nesting birds have fledged and gone. It feels wrong to leave it at the mercy of the neighbourhood cats when it’s clearly quite strong and nearly ready to fledge.

Could it be a starling? The feathers look similar. Don't know what you should do, do the RSPB have a helpline or online info?

It’s a goldfinch. A parent has returned once and I’ve spoken to the wildlife rescue now. I’m going to observe and maybe move it to a safer place as I’m worried about a local cat which I strongly suspect is why the baby is out of the nest to begin with. It’s been prowling around and looking into the trees near the fence for a few days, and the goldfinches have been going a bit berserk.

Awwwwww he's delicious. I'm so pleased he's back with his mummy.

If you can give him some shade too. Bless.

Hope the little fella is ok. It is common for fledgling at that stage to leave the nest and the parents will find them.

Sadly I don’t think it was quite time, I found it flat out lying on the path first thing and initially thought it was nearly dead. It perked up and by the evening was shouting loudly for food. I saw a parent feeding it twice so didn’t take it to the rescue but moved it to a safer place nearby. Unfortunately it’s not there this morning and I can’t hear it. Sad
