16:8 fast and coffee

Posting for traffic....
I'm going to start the 16:8 fast this week. I have put on a stone over lockdown. I have a question....
I'm happy to skip breakfast as I only really eat it at weekends as work days I'm up and out, however I drink alot of coffee. I have it with oat milk and 1 sugar.
Will I need to have it just black? If yes I'm going to have to wean myself off the sugar and oatly ASAP!!!
TIA!

Yes no sugar at the very least, I guess a dash of oat milk won't hurt but prob best not too.

pinkbalconyrailing · 10/08/2020 10:39

depends how seriously you are taking it.
'purists' would say black coffee only during fasting hours. but others don't see it as strict.
up to you, really.
I personally don't have any calories during fasting, as that makes me hangry. I fare much better with just black coffee and water until I break the fast around lunchtime

Thanks for the reply, I guess I will have to start cutting the sugar out ASAP!!

I was taught coffee mudt be black in the fasting period. Milk has calories so will trigger an insulin response.

it's probably a good idea generally to avoid sugar in drinks.
maybe try different coffees to see if they are tastier to you without additions.

I ordered a 0 cal creamer with vanilla when I was doing 16:8 seemed to work fine for me. It’s quite sweet though so you couldn’t put much in.

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 10/08/2020 13:51

Boysadear, that sounds like it could work, do you have a link?

I have taken a screen grab of the website - I have no idea how to link!

There's hope ..... I started 16/8 in May. I used to drink milky coffee with one sugar. First of all I dropped the sugar and then about two weeks later the milk. I think fondly still of milky, sugary coffee but I don't think I could go back to drinking it now. I've got a black no sugar coffee now, it's ok....

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/08/2020 18:43

I've started to actually enjoy black coffee now, over 2 months into 16:8.

I used to have a very milky latte with no sugar - literally an espresso with the rest of a large mug full of hot milk. I cut down to 100ml milk and the rest hot water, then 50ml and now I have some black and some with milk. I grind my own coffee and grind fennel seeds with it, which gives a nicer flavour imo.
In the last few weeks I have started to chose black coffee even during my eating hours sometimes. There is hope!

SidesteppinTheRona · 10/08/2020 18:46

I looked this up last week. The info I found was that coffee with a little dash of milk is ok... anything less than 30 calories isn't going to stop your body doing whatever it's supposed to be doing when you're fasting (sorry.. can't remember what that is!)

hippohector · 10/08/2020 19:29

I always have coffee with a bit of skimmed milk (no sugar) and it doesn’t impact the diet

CarlottaValdez · 10/08/2020 20:39

I’ve been doing 18:6 a while and have lost some weight. I’m sceptical about it being anything other than a good way to restrict calories though so I have milk in tea and coffee if I feel like it.

Pertella · 10/08/2020 21:14

I do 16:8 and low carb and have a couple of coffees with a dash of milk during fasting. Im still losing weight so it doesn't seem to be causing a problem.

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 10/08/2020 22:14

Just logged in and seen lots of replies thank you!
I have ordered the Creamer that was mentioned and I think if I can wean myself down to a tiny dash in coffee it should be OK (fingers crossed)
I know 1 stone is not alot of weight to lose but I just can't shift it!!
And I can't stop eating absolute crap!!!!

I find I don’t lose much weight just skipping breakfast but combined with absolutely no eating between meals I seem to be managing about a lb a week which I’m happy enough with!
