How can I get some willpower with sweet stuff?

If you have lost weight how did you do it? I start with good intentions then get tempted by sweet stuff and then beat myself up after eating it! It's like the craving overrides every other rational thought in my head and I have to have the cake or chocolate or whatever it is and cant think about anything else. I think I'm addicted to sugar.

No point saying dont buy it, other people live in this house so there will always be temptations.
I'm pre-diabetic so I'm not even allowed it, but even that doesnt stop me.

Cold turkey doesn't work for me. I break after a couple of days and proper gorge myself.

I find having small treats, and only small treats, in the house works for me. I have small choc ices, small Tangfastic packs, little Freddo bars in the house, so if I go crazy, then I have 3 Tangfastic packs, or two Freddos, which equate to 150 cals rather than a whole pack of biscuits equating to 1200 cals.

Also, exercising to 'earn' calories. When you know that a 5k run only earns you less that a sharing bag of chocolate, you start to put meaning behind the calories.....

Calorie counting really helped me OP. I lost 2 stone and haven't put it back on in 2 years. I made sure I left 100/150 cals for a treat, which meant I had something to look forward to when the kids had gone to bed, and less likely to think 'fuck it' and binge.

I saw this posted on another thread recently about the myth of willpower:
