What’s the most delicious thing you can cook?

I really miss restaurants (to be fair we haven’t been able to go often for the last few years anyway but it used to be my main leisure activity 😂)

Currently cooking an absolutely amazing looking Galician ribeye steak for two and roasted new potatoes as a birthday / anniversary dinner.

But the best part of it is the bearnaise sauce. It’s such a faff to make (clarifying butter FFS) but It tastes so good. I could eat it out of the bowl. The worst part is that it doesn’t keep otherwise I would batch cook it and eat it with chips like they do in Sweden 😬

I think it’s the only thing I can cook that’s as good as a decent restaurant.

What’s the most delicious thing you can cook at home?

In the last year I've mastered puff pastry and 2 minute mayonnaise (none of this trickling nonsense!) - neither of which is good for my waistline but hey-ho.

This is soooo good!

foodism.co.uk/recipes/make-this-berber-and-q-cauliflower-shawarma/

Serve it with slow roast lamb shoulder and some pickled veg to cut through the fat.

Mmmmmmm!

I made the best crumble I've ever done the other week. It was pears with chocolate chips. The two went so well together and the real secret was using tinned pears and making double crumble mixture. I left most of the juice in the bottom and it soaked into half the crumble so there was a nice crumbly layer with a stodgy layer underneath. It was so good!

Wow! Some lovely new things to try on this thread.

I make a mean roast. Yorkies are hit an miss but my homemade stuffing and gravy make up for that.
Firm favourite is 3 Day Honey Rum Ribs. Massive ball ache , whole jar of honey and half a bottle of rum, a slow-cook, a bake and finished off on the bbq..but soooo worth it.

I’m trying to master crispy beef ribs, not quite there yet!

Desserts/cakes/bread are my weak spots and I'd love to make something that spectacular!!!!

Aw, thanks. I based it on the Jamie recipe but did a two layer version. Using a bit of yoghurt in the whipped cream makes it slightly tangier. Made the stripey kisses by painting stripes with red food gel inside a disposable piping bag. There was also a raspberry coulis poured over the top just before serving.

To be honest, it's more about the impact of assembly rather than any particular skill in baking. I have gone spectacularly wrong with pavlovas in the past due to underwhipping the egg whites.

My lasagne gets complimented but I think my mum's and nonna's are better!

I'm a better baker, most technical cake I've made is sachertorte for a friend birthday (she's German)

All my meat is dry and overcooked though - I don't like really like meat though so DH is in charge of cooking it here.

Have added that to this week's meal plan too!
SinkGirl · 15/08/2020 21:07

It was so good. I bought enough for the full recipe which would have done us for 2-3 meals but my pan wasn’t big enough so will have to make it again :D

Creme brulee and chocolate fondants are the only things I make that I think ' that's as good as anyone would pay for'.

Sertchgi123 · 15/08/2020 22:35

Pork ribs with homemade sauce, sirloin steak with everything, Sunday roasts, boiled fruit cake, chicken curry.

Shizzlestix · 16/08/2020 00:00

A beef dish with Pernod, red wine and crême fraîche, made it up a few times when my parents visited me in France. Not sure I could recreate it now, but blow me, best thing I’ve ever eaten!

justjuggling · 16/08/2020 01:35

Macaroni cheese - loads and loads of roasted garlic in it. And banana cake with squares of chocolate poked in before baking.

Would love a really good beef rib recipe as I can’t seem to master that.

JingsMahBucket · 16/08/2020 14:16

I’ve bookmarked that duck ragout recipe for later. I can’t wait to try it this Fall.

@alula

Thank you for posting the recipe.

I'm planning on duck ragu tomorrow and have taken said dick from the freezer in anticipation!
@pickachew if its the chaokoh coconut milk its been withdrawn because of slave monkey concerns 😟
Bloody hell. :( it was that one, too. Back to the waitrose organic one, if that's any better. At least it separates properly.

Don't forget to take the duck out too Wink

DeRigueurMortis · 16/08/2020 18:18

Oh my goodness Blush

I have obviously not taken dick from the freezer but now await the inevitable puns from the MN community Grin.

It was a DUCK from the freezer and completely above board Blush

DeRigueurMortis · 16/08/2020 18:21

That said, frozen dick might not be a bad idea if you're in the midst of a bad case of thrush....

Sorry........Grin
