What’s the most delicious thing you can cook?

I really miss restaurants (to be fair we haven’t been able to go often for the last few years anyway but it used to be my main leisure activity 😂)

Currently cooking an absolutely amazing looking Galician ribeye steak for two and roasted new potatoes as a birthday / anniversary dinner.

But the best part of it is the bearnaise sauce. It’s such a faff to make (clarifying butter FFS) but It tastes so good. I could eat it out of the bowl. The worst part is that it doesn’t keep otherwise I would batch cook it and eat it with chips like they do in Sweden 😬

I think it’s the only thing I can cook that’s as good as a decent restaurant.

What’s the most delicious thing you can cook at home?

@SinkGirl I make bearnaise, and am also mad for it. I have never bothered to clarify the butter. I wonder if it makes any difference?

MuppetBabi · 09/08/2020 21:25

I make hollandaise regularly (Keto) and never bother to clarify the butter. What difference would it make?

I make a lovely teriyaki salmon.

I'm not usually good at baking but my baked cheesecake is exceptional.

Either my minted leg of lamb or chicken fajitas

magimedi · 09/08/2020 21:30

Beef in yogurt with black pepper.

Deffo a winter dish but amazingly delicious.

FloreanFortescue · 09/08/2020 21:31

A roast dinner. I'm always disappointed when I go out!

My Yorkies are always better.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/08/2020 21:37

I make a very good lasagne and excellent Yorkshire puddings

Same...I make a delicious roast pork with really crispy crackling and apple sauce.
Much nicer and so much cheaper to do at home.

I make a lovely Sunday lunch. I also make pretty tasty 'one pot' dishes such as lamb kelftiko and beef bourguignon for special occasions. My friends and family enjoy my chilli and salsa too; every year we host an autumn house party and this is the dish our guests expect and look forward to . My secret is to cook with A LOT of butter, salt and good quality wine with generous seasoning. Oh, my jacket potatoes (hassle backs) can't be beaten either!

LouisaKelmen · 09/08/2020 21:59

I'm quite good with baking, homemade ice creams, salted caramel etc.

formerbabe · 09/08/2020 22:01

I make a good lemon drizzle

My trick is to use more lemon than you think you need

ForeverTiredMama · 09/08/2020 22:06

I make a really good red Thai curry. So I'm told anyway.

EnidMatilda · 09/08/2020 22:16

I make a good beef pie and a chicken and leek pie. I'm also good at scones and won't entertain a shop bought one now. Wish I could make an amazing roast dinner but it's never as good as my mum's.

WitchenKitch · 09/08/2020 22:25

Louisiana-style smothered chicken.
Juicy chicken strips dusted in spiced flour, fried in a ton of butter and oil, then removed from the pan. Make a dark roux with some of the left over flour, and then add onions, celery, garlic, and green peppers before turning it into a gravy with chicken stock. Add the chicken back to the pan, with slices of a spicy sausage (I use chorizo as it's easy to find) and simmer. Served with white rice.

It's so good, but also a heart attack on a plate, so we don't have it as often as I'd like.

LockdownDowner · 09/08/2020 22:31

My French onion soup is delicious as is my gravy. People also ask me for my coleslaw, my mum is a great cook but always gets me to make coleslaw for her.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 09/08/2020 22:33

My buttermilk scones are good - it’s a Mary Berry recipe and they turn out perfect every time.

notheragain4 · 09/08/2020 22:34

I make the best cheese and bacon scones in the world. I defy anyone to disagree.

YouFellAsleep · 09/08/2020 22:38

I do a mean Vietnamese beef stew, slow cooked with star anise and carrots, served with rice. My DH's favourite and the kids love it as well Smile

Which layer went wrong, pollylocketpickedapocket? It can take a bit of time getting the knack of shortbread.

30not13 · 09/08/2020 23:29

@incywincydardar

Satay chicken! I have a slimming world version and full fat version and both are incredible!
I'd love your recipe please :)
Mammyloveswine · 09/08/2020 23:33

Not very refined but so tasty... and a Geordie classic! Corned beef and potato plate pie! It always goes down so well!

I also make a perfect Sunday dinner with amazing Yorkshire puddings... my pork particularly has perfect crackling! I slow cook beef and my chicken is never dry!

SerenityNowwwww · 09/08/2020 23:33

Cakes. I also make a damn good tatie pot.

SinkGirl · 09/08/2020 23:35

@SonEtLumiere

Isn’t Ghee just clarified butter? That’s what I’d use.
Sort of but then it’s cooked longer, so has a different flavour. I might try it and see how it goes :)

A seriously amazing sticky toffee pudding. Needless to say, I rarely make it as my middle-age spread would spread far too much...
