Help, new house, no electricity

My fault entirely, but in the chaos of moving yesterday I neglected to get the electricity switched to me and woke up today to find I have none. Is there any way I can get electricity today?!

Is it pre pay meter? Who was the previous owner with?

Commentutappelles · 09/08/2020 13:10

Gas is pre pay, not electricity. Letting agents shut today so can't ask them.

Umm...ok.

Do any of the neighbours know? No paperwork there at all?

You could try pot luck I guess and phone around? Estate agents may have OOH number

www.ofgem.gov.uk and there are links that will tell you who your supplier is.

Has it been empty a while? Can’t see why they’d be no electricity otherwise, unless a prepayment meter. I’ve always just given meter readings to supplier when moving, but electricity’s never been turned off.

Previous tenants left months ago. Will look at ofgem, thank you.

@Commentutappelles did you get electric in the end?

Commentutappelles · 10/08/2020 23:39

frownette thank you for checking in. Turns out it was a key meter but the landlord had not only neglected to mention that, but took the flipping key!
Stressful day, but at least I know now. Thanks to all.

You can get replacement keys from certain retailers with a code from the supplier
