Selling wedding dress

Due to covid our wedding was cancelled. Instead of waiting for forever to reschedule we are just going to the registry office, no big fancy frocks etc.

This means I have a brand new unused unworn wedding dress which cost £1000 and a brand new flower girl dress, shoes etc which cost about £150. Does anyone know where is the best place to sell a wedding dress to try and maximise the return? I feel especially because it is unworn I hopefully stand a decent chance of a return on it (I hope) although I am realistic.

Also should I wait till next year to sell as no weddings will probably be happening this year?

I was thinking about that myself, similar outlay.

I thought I might just bung it on eBay for £100.

You could try advertising locally at first and see if there is any interest?

I come from a culture where the registry is the time for the big white dress and would probably wear it and keep it on the whole day.

@Frownette yeah, I’m not sure what’s best. I wondered if there were specialist sites to sell. I even asked my bridal shop if they offer buy back but they don’t!

I got married in a registry office. I wore a white wedding dress and my hubby wore a morning suit. What are you going to wear instead?

@nettytree I’m wearing a dress but not my original dress which was bought and paid for back in April. I’ve just bought a plain simple dress to wear to the registry office. Seems daft to wear a £1000 dress for a maximum f half an hour since there’s no reception, neal etc

Unfortunately I think it will be difficult to maximise return on the dress, it will be considered second hand even if it hasn’t been worn. Has it been altered to fit you?
I think what makes the most difference in price for resale is if it is designer.
Are you sure you don’t want to wear it for the registry office? If you don’t want to that’s fine, but there is nothing wrong with wearing a full on frock for a registry wedding.

Bumble it’s up to you of course but it’s really not daft! The two most important people will be there, which is you and the groom.

I would maybe wait a few months to sell until the rules on weddings are relaxed and people are more likely to start planning big events and want to wear a big dress

I'd still wear it even for only half an hour. Your not going to get even half what you paid for it so you may as well actually get to wear it.

We have dd2s unworn wedding dress for sale. Wedding didnt happen. If you're a size 10 and want something uber plain and sleek....

Another register office wedding with a typical wedding dress. Shame you don't want to wear it but I can understand if it may add to any disappointment of not having the wedding you hoped for.
But nothing wrong with wearing it if you change your mind.

I would wait until the situation for weddings are closer to normal, before figuring out where to sell it.

I'd wear it!!! I walked to my wedding from the hotel in full flounce it was amazingly good fun

I tried selling my dress, no interest what so ever and ended up taking it to charity shop 12 years after getting married (and 4 years after getting divorced)

But to add I'd still wear it for the registry office wedding. Why not? I've been to a few registry office weddings and they've all worn proper wedding dresses. One was an Indian wedding dress ( - which was beautiful)

Another biggish white dress registry wedding wearer here, I love having the photos to look back on. I’ll never have the chance to wear such a dress again.

I know this isn't what you asked, but I'd totally wear it and get a hell of a photoshoot afterwards too! ❤️ It is your special day, after all! And I'm sure if it's worn 2-3 hours you can still sell it for a decent price!
