...such as a programme like wife swap/holiday showdown/come dine with me? How did you/they do, were you/they accurately represented?

My auntie was on Four in A Bed and the episode was repeated today. She is lovely but came across as a right nob, I remember when it first aired and everyone at work was slagging her off, I kept schtum that she was family Grin

Yup - I was more of a background character but my friend went on dates and got pissed. Represented fairly enough I thought.

Someone I know went on embarrassing bodies... a family friend - twas quite the unexpected shocker - let’s just say as a result of watching the episode, we have all have viewed in depth and close up investigations into his genitals. Bit awkward lol!

Presumably it was accurately presented (well it was in HD 😂😱).

I worked with a lady who went on holiday showdown. Her holiday was drunken debauchery and the others was a posh history tour lol

I LOVED holiday showdown. I remember one family whose holiday was a week in their home town, staying in their house and doing things like bowling and cinema. After a luxury Florida trip with the other family IIRC Grin

A couple my mum knows were on Scottish Passport, an utterly shite Scottish gameshow, in the 90s. I can remember watching it and being embarrassed for them even as a ten year old Grin

Holiday Showdown was my favourite hangover viewing! I remember one with a very conventional family who liked sitting by the pool and not much else, placed with this family of hippies who made them go to the Levellers’ Beautiful Day festival. The dad from the other family ended up getting mauled and having a brilliant time at the festival. It was great Grin

My in laws were on neighbours from hell. All a bit dramatic and embarrassing really.

ChangeThePassword · 08/08/2020 23:28

Someone I was in school with was on come dine with me.

She came across pretty accurately, but it wasn't terribly complimentary.

Norma27 · 09/08/2020 07:33

I used to work with a couple who were on holiday showdown
They took the other family camping. Think the other family took them to spain.
The couple I knew came across really badly. There was a big row when I think they demanded money to buy their own meal for them or maybe just for the children. They were actually really nice when I worked with them. Would do anything for anybody.

A good friend was on CDWM. They insisted he started cooking specific bits at time he didn't want to so some bits were ruined. And the scoring goes on forever so none of them got to bed before 1.30am all week and were shattered.

MuseumOfYou · 09/08/2020 07:42

DH and I were on a channel 4 cookery competition last year - 3 episodes. Fantastic experience, and generally, we came over pretty much as we were!

At the time I was a bit put out because the final put a bit of a spin on the situation which wasn't quite accurate but then I got over myself and remembered it was tv and it would be very dull without an angle...

Norma27 · 09/08/2020 07:45

I've just checked the episode the family I knew were on and they were taken to Florence to go around museums.

MuseumOfYou · 09/08/2020 07:50

We had our photo in the Sunday Times culture magazine, interviewed twice on our local BBC radio and featured in our local paper. Loved the attention! Also featured in a little C4 trailer showing DH being a bit Gordon Ramsey-ish under pressure. Also not far from the truth. We cooked 120 portions of 3 different meals from scratch in 3hrs in a kitchenette. Filming 10hrs a day. All round brilliant experience.
