Test for lactose intolerance

Has anyone had one? My dd seems to have developed lactose intolerance- I don’t feel any particular need to worry the gp about it, as she is fine on lactose free/oat milk etc and we are pretty certain it is lactose that she’s intolerant to. Is a test useful at all?

How old is she? Permanent intolerance rare in children but temporary lactose intolerance can occur after antibiotics or stomach upsets.

Are you sure its lactose and not cows milk protein thats the issue?

She’s 16 and fine on lactose free milk.

I stopped being able to tolerate lactose a few years ago. I switched to lactose free stuff initially then that started triggering reflux so I cut that out too. I’ve mentioned it to my GP when we were discussing IBS and a low FODMAP diet but she just told me to cut it out if it’s a problem. It doesn’t do any harm to not have lactose in your diet so if she’s happy as she is I’m not sure how useful a test would be really.

My son 8 year old Is lactose intolerant it was confirmed with a stool test that looks for reducing sugars. This was done via his paediatrician.
