What gin are you drinking?

I’m on Whitley Neill raspberry. I’m struggling for new flavours at the moment, I’ve decided I don’t like orange or lemon ones. I’m worried I won’t like gooseberry for instance. I am waiting for my local lidl to get the new Cocacaba flavour one, which I assume will be like Malibu.
What’s everyone else on?

If you're drinking strongly flavoured gin and mixing with Appletiser, you clearly don't like gin!

Thisisanillegalbingogame · 08/08/2020 10:57

I have several bottles of flavoured gin that people have bought for me but I don’t know how to drink them-any recommendations of what to have with them?

20viona · 08/08/2020 11:28

@Thisisanillegalbingogame slimline Tonic or I like lemon fevertree tonic with rhubarb or orange gin.

Delicious.

Do I win the poncetastic gin drinker award?

MrsT1405 · 08/08/2020 11:38

Sorry but gin should taste like, well gin. My favourite is Larrios followed by Bombay sapphire.

Thisisanillegalbingogame · 08/08/2020 12:37

Thanks 20viona I’ll give that a go 👍

MsWoodentop · 08/08/2020 12:45

Another purist here, I don't drink flavoured gins. Am currently on Ellis and Long Limousin gin which is lovely, but have to say, if I haven't got Brockmans in, which is my absolute favourite, then Lidl's Hortus citrus garden is right up there.

longtompot · 08/08/2020 14:09

My favourite gin is Winchester dry gin. We bought it at the Winchester Christmas market a few years ago when it was first released. I've never enjoyed a neat gin until this one. I'm hoping to get some for Christmas or my birthday this year Grin
For general gin drinking we have Greenalls, Gordon's, sometimes Bombay Sapphire if on offer, or Sainsbury own brand which is actually ok.
I would love to get some of the lovely bottles I see, but my dh doesn't do measures and we'd get through it far too quickly :(

SweetPetrichor · 08/08/2020 15:02

Isle of Harris gin
Hendrick Lunar gin
Lussa gin
Colonsay gin
Ungava gin
Beinn an Tuirc Kintyre gin
Strathearn Heather Rose gin
Wild Island Sacred Tree Gin
Gingle all the Way (Christmas gin)
Gin Bothy Gunshot

....I am not an alcoholic, in fact, I rarely drink...but these are my active gins right now! Blush

Agbqzy · 08/08/2020 15:07

I have Bombay Sapphire and Fever Tree Elderflower tonic currently 9n the go.

Not overly keen on rhubarb and ginger Edinburgh gin I had as a present one Christmas.

Anyone tried the Lidl gins Hortus I think is name and any recommends?

Saucery · 08/08/2020 15:13

Cuckoo Distillery gin.
Hendricks.
Shed 1.
Tempted by a Manchester Tart flavoured gin but I prefer the plainer, sharper ones.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 08/08/2020 15:19

Isle of Harris or Cotswold if we're feeling a bit flash, otherwise good old Bombay Sapphire and lime.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/08/2020 15:21

I'm a bit of a purist too! I was on the gin that gave me my user name, Curios make a few great gins.

But now I am on a local potato based gin, Chase GB. They do flavoured ones too, and the two I have tasted were nice, ish!

bumhead · 08/08/2020 15:25

Hendricks Lunar gin is out of this world. It's crazy juice

choirmumoftwo · 08/08/2020 15:33

I'm also a bit of a purist and would choose Hendricks or Bloom in a pub, but we bough DS a bottle of Island Gin for his 21st and it's gorgeous. Very botanical and I prefer it with a plain tonic. Distilled on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly - a favourite holiday spot. Not cheap but very special and a lovely bottle based on Bishop Rock lighthouse.

Kez200 · 08/08/2020 16:19

Botanist is amazing. Its a traditional gin.

Kez200 · 08/08/2020 16:20

Curio Navy Fly was my favourite but it was a one off and I cant get it anywhere now :(

BestIsWest · 08/08/2020 16:25

I heartily dislike flavoured gins. The Botanist is lovely as in Hendricks , as Gwŷr which is local to me. I’ve never met a traditional gin I didn’t like but time and again I go back to good old Gordon’s with Schweppes tonic, lemon and ice.

Obviouslynotallthere · 08/08/2020 16:31

My absolute fave is Chase grapefruit and pomelo. Love 💗

dementedma · 08/08/2020 16:37

Sipsmiths at the moment but other favourites are:
Harris
Aribikie
Jawbox
Gunpowder
Seaglass
Boodles

fussychica · 08/08/2020 17:10

Not a flavoured gin fan. My current bottles are Martin Miller, Caorunn, Berry Brothers No 3 and just finished Monkey 47. Liked it but a tad expensive. Other go to gin Tanqueray 10. My next try will be Silent Pool unfortunately it's never on offer.

TheOrchidKiller · 08/08/2020 18:42

Kokoro. Yuzu & ginger, and cherry blossom are nice. The blueberry & lemon grass sounds vile but it's quite nice.

I'm also a fan of Fevertree tonic waters, & Lidl do a decent plain tonic.

MsWoodentop · 08/08/2020 18:58

Monkey 47 is lovely isn't it.

So many good small distillers about these days, wherever we go, I try to track down some local gins to try. Never flavoured though. You can also get lots of miniatures online which is a good way to try some more unusual ones without splashing out on a full bottle.
