Please help me, I need to buy a toaster, but are there any that actually got an entire slice of bread in one go? We normally have the larger hovis or warburtons slices and it seems like most toasters you end up with a bit of the slice sticking out of the top. Only needs to be a 2 slice but 4 fine too.

You have raised my pet hate! 😆😆
I have the answer to your prayers which I found after extensive searching.
It is the Kenwood 4 slice toaster. I have only ever found it in John Lewis. (Shame it only comes in white but I'll take that over a can't toast properly toaster any day).
It doesn't have 4 slots it has 2 long ones which is perfect as even if you buy a big bloomer (oo-er 😆) you can still toast it, normal bread you just lie on its side, perfect toast every time. I've had mine a long time and it's great.
I could rant on about what is the point of building toasters that only half toast so you have to turn them over half way through and get a burnt stripe down the middle, or accept a half-toast-half-bread result and what a waste of world resources it is... But I'll resist... Just.

Strongswans · 07/08/2020 17:21

@ChickensMightFly Thank you! Looks ideal. Its been driving me mad, I am with you, most slices are larger so why build toasters too small. It's a complete faff having to flip halfway through. I could rant for ages about it Grin

Ooh, I need a new one (current one is old enough to vote)

Anyone got recommendations for one that does Bagels? DH has them occasionally and our current one has a special setting - new ones don't it seems...

Any Ideas??

elephantoverthehill · 07/08/2020 17:29

My advice is to check the depth of the crumb tray. A single piece of metal sheet is not up to the job of keeping the work surfaces crumb free. 2 teenager DCs at home and crumbs galore.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 07/08/2020 17:30

We have the Kenwood one too and it is great. We use a bread machine and it was the only one we could find that would fit the slices of bread. We've now bought the matching kettle too.

Teacaketotty · 07/08/2020 17:33

I have a smeg one, fits in a warburtons toastie full slice, bagels, muffins etc without getting caught - expensive but I love it!

bodgeitandscarper · 07/08/2020 17:35

My next toaster will be a Sage, eye wateringly expensive for a toaster, but we will use it a lot.

Wingingitsince2018 · 07/08/2020 17:36

I alsl have one of the long slot ones that fits in a decent size of fresh bread. Eventually stumbled upon one in Tescos, own brand

ChickensMightFly · 07/08/2020 17:37

The Kenwood 4 slice toaster takes the widest longest slices of any toaster I've ever found. Does my bagels no bother, no bagel setting as such, but I know which number on the dial to use. 😊
Strongswans I think together we could enjoy a good drink and set the world to rights chat session. 😆😆

Yesbutisittouching · 07/08/2020 17:37

I have a magimix vision. Has bagel/frozen setting and you can see how brown your toast/whatever is becoming. I love it. Takes a while slice of warburtons and also because of the element positioning toasts right to the edges.

Obviously I am getting very old being so passionate about a toaster I’ve had for nearly 10 years 🤣

Yesbutisittouching · 07/08/2020 17:38

*whole not while.

ChickensMightFly · 07/08/2020 17:42

Mine is getting tired, because of this I pounced when I saw a similar thing in Aldi in the weird aisle for a bargain price. But it wasn't a patch, flimsy, took up more space on my worktop, faulty after 5 days. So I'm back to the Kenwood, after many years service.. the grass wasn't greener and when it actually dies I'll be getting another.
In defence of my enthusiastic endorsement of this toaster, I do love toast. Quite a toast connoisseur in fact. 🎩🍞

I have just come across this one which is supposed to fit warburtons slices!

Am I the only weirdo that's never owned a toaster and just uses the grill?!

MitziK · 07/08/2020 19:10

Put the bread in sideways.

Pinkflipflop85 · 07/08/2020 19:28

@TartanCurtains my nan has never owned a toaster or a microwave.

TartanCurtains · 07/08/2020 19:31

@Pinkflipflop85 Good to know, but I'm assuming I'm younger than your nan (early 40s) 😁

I'm not sure I'm capable of scrambled eggs without a microwave.

I'm in shock. 😳

I've always just used the grill till now, but I have a teen who eats lots of toast but has anxiety and won't use the grill because of the flame. So toaster it is now.

Meganplays · 07/08/2020 21:57

I use the grill too. I love not having a crumb making, space taking, only toasts 75% of the bread toaster on the work top.

EggysMom · 07/08/2020 22:00

There is an inexpensive Asda George toaster that fits Warburtons. We're on our second one, we wore out the first one!

[Very sadly, I used to go toaster shopping with a piece of cardboard the size of a slide of Warbys just so that I could test the fit ...]

Snowinsummer · 07/08/2020 22:13

I've got a Dualit one & wouldn't recommend. I bought it for its looks and it was expensive, about £80, 6 years ago. However the knobs cracked quickly & it doesn't toast v evenly.

youngestisapsycho · 07/08/2020 22:32

I prefer it grilled, it tastes different! Our toaster is on a tray in cupboard and just comes out when needed

Strongswans · 08/08/2020 14:27

Just thought I'd share today's find! A pp mentioned Asda toasters, so had a look in there, found this 4 slice one that fits a Warburtons slice in whole. It was £10.84 on sale!
