York restaurant recommendations

We are (hopefully, Covid permitting), heading to York for a weekend at the end of this month. Can anybody recommend a good restaurant or two in town we can book in to? Mid range price is fine, happy with most types of food. Thanks!

Hi we love York our restaurant list is

Red Chilli for Chinese
Judges
Rustique

Hope you have a wonderful time.

Puppylucky · 07/08/2020 19:58

We went there last July. Ate at Roots which was amazing as well as Judges which was a bit underwhelming

Having been in York this summer
Lockdown has had a MASSIVE impact
have a wander before making any plans

My favourite York restaurant has closed for at least a year
many others are on limited menus

the shambles is one way (enforced)
its not like it was

What’s your favourite restaurant @ListeningQuietly? Am prepared for it to be quite different this time.

YUM
Jealous and drooling now, wanna go lol

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2020 21:32

If it’s still open The Go Down....

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/08/2020 21:33

Yes to Blue Barbakan. First time in a Polish restaurant, really impressed.

Bears
I go to york to collect and deliver children to University.
I live hours away
BUT
Il Paradiso is just mental good Italian food
but social distancing is impossible at their site

I actively avoid chains

MrsGrindah · 07/08/2020 22:02

Sorry apparently The GoDown closed in January

Takeitonthechin · 07/08/2020 22:13

The Blue Bicycle

Plush is good for breakfast & lunch.

Ambiente for dinner.

Tigger03 · 07/08/2020 22:33

Rustique was lovely! There’s two though so try to avoid what we did and book one and walk to the other...

MrsGrindah · 08/08/2020 08:02

The Blue Bicycle closed down too.

bringmelaughter · 08/08/2020 08:12

The rattle owl. York has lots of lovely places to eat but the rattle owl is just beautiful.

chomalungma · 08/08/2020 08:55

Blue Bicycle shut down after the floods. It's now the Blue Barbakan.

The Shambles is not one way now.
There are lots of restaurants open - and it's not too busy for summer.

Thank you for that. After being a student there, York is one of my favourite places on earth. I think I’ll give it a miss for a while now. It’s very sad, we had a couple of days there for my birthday last year - breakfast at Betty’s and dinner at The Ivy - what a day.

Having been in York yesterday - as I live there - it's fine.
It's quieter with tourists but there are plenty of pubs and restaurants open, lots of outdoor seating etc

Modestandatinybitsexy · 08/08/2020 09:14

Tommy Banks has just opened up Roots and I'd love to go, his food is amazing

MadeleineMaxwell · 08/08/2020 10:53

There used to be a divine little Italian place on the Shambles - no idea what it was called or if it's still there, but that's where I'd be heading to!

Wildwood.
