Fucking hormones

Please someone come and talk to me...

I feel like I have three fucking weeks of PMT. I am Day 9 in my cycle and I feel awful. Bloated, disgusting, hate myself, mood swings, cravings, want to eat the whole fridge, very short tempered and irritable.

Ahead of me I have two weeks of up and down, mood swings etc then I have PMT which consists of sore boobs, spots, tearfulness, unreasonableness etc.

Am I just a really inconsistent person or is this hormones or what?

I have had a Mirena fitted for two years. Thought all was ok to begin with but I was going through a tough time and so attributed a lot of my emotional state to dealing with that. I’m now in a much better place and still struggling to be a nice human.

No real advice, but offering solidarity...my hormones are affecting me more now that I have entered my 40's. I thought I had left the monthly moodiness of my teens and twenties behind me but it has reared its ugly head again with what I assume is perimenopause...delightful!

Emancipated · 06/08/2020 19:52

Well that’s my wonder... how much is this Mirena, how much is just bloody damn hormones and I’d still feel shit even without it!

This was me a couple of months ago! The mood swings! The cramps! The rage! And oh my god the spots😭😭😭

I very reluctantly started on the pill a few months ago (Gedarel) and ooohhh my god the improvement. Oh my god. My mood is level. No more condoms, no more cravings and no more spots! Wish I’d done it a year ago!

Op try taking a vitamin B6 tablet all throughout the month it regulates hormones and take a vitamin D one. If I don't take them by the time my period rolls around I've behaved like a complete cunt. I hate hormones. I've had three kids now and I swear my PMS is worse since my last son.

Also google PMDD see if that makes any sense to you it's not very well known. You have my sympathy 100% Thanks

AudacityOfHope · 06/08/2020 20:29

I'm 41 and you've just described me. I had none of this hormonal crap until 4/5 months ago. My period ended 10 days ago and my body is gearing up for the next one already. It feels like it almost never ends now.

Emancipated · 06/08/2020 20:41

I’m looking at B vitamins now. Definitely worth a try. Anything to stop being such a miserable bitch.

I was on ADs until about 6 months ago and coming off of those has made me see a lot more of my true hormones and related emotions.

I am 35, 2 kids and definitely have worse PMT now than ever before. A week before is fine but I swear I feel it 3/4 of the month!

At least with the coil I have no periods as such.

I'll look too - if anyone can link to what they take that would be ace.

relievedlady · 06/08/2020 21:23

Interesting thread.

41 and for the last 8 months or so am exactly the same Hmm

Literally feel like crap this week with mood swings bloating and no energy whatsoever. My body is gearing up and I only stopped bleeding 10 days ago.

I know exactly when I'm ovulating due to the horrendous pains and aches down my legs and bloating and mood.

It then settles for less than a week before a few days of pmt appears and then bam period from hell. Confused

Last month I couldn't function without a mixture of codiene paracetomol and ibuprofen for the first two days due to the constant pains and cramps.

I'm definitely peri I think.

I ran out of vitamin d capsules a month ago mod have only just started taking them again so hoping that and the multi vits settle things

Trevortrilby · 06/08/2020 21:23

Have a listen to the episode of Doctor's kitchen podcast with Dr Hannah Short. She is a PMS/ menopause specialist and gives a lot of really helpful advice about diet, supplements and medication.

AbsentmindedWoman · 06/08/2020 21:23

Ugh, I can totally relate.

For the last couple of months, I feel like I'm having bouts of PMT from ovulation. It's dawned on me though that I think my thyroid meds need tweaking. Am overdue blood test thanks to covid.

I really recommend getting a full workup of your thyroid (Free T3 and Free T4, not just TSH which can miss things) as well as checking your B12 and vitamin D.

jelly79 · 07/08/2020 08:11

I didn't know I needed it to be honest OP but if you have it and there is no difference there is also no harm. So so glad I have done though, I am all over the place some days when I am hormonal. Working full time at hone and single parent, bang in the middle of a house move. I feel better than ever to be honest and I really think that plays a big part (food, sleep and exercise are also helping obvs) x

Sheknowsaboutme · 07/08/2020 08:42

Me too! Im 46 next month, period every 21-24 days, heavy and bleeding through, clotting and I’m bitch for 2 weeks per month and a delight to live with. WFH and everyone else home doesn’t help.

But yesterday i got my bloods taken for B12, hormones and thyroid so hopefully something will show up as abnormal.

If not ill have to live with the fact that I will be a bitch for years to come.

GingerLemonTea · 07/08/2020 08:50

PMDD - it’s awful

Daphnesmate01 · 07/08/2020 21:55

Shek, yes can relate to this similar age to you and heavy bleeding and clotting and long periods. Loads of tests done including internal scan, definitely the peri in my case, it is so grim - having a period that lasts between 2-4 weeks and causes anaemia.

pinkpetal2 · 08/08/2020 20:59

There's an app called Moody.
That is specifically about hormones and periods I've got it, and it's okay tells you day to day what to expect all throughout the month.
