We’ve lost 150 euros from an apartment booking, but they have given us a voucher
That’s valid for 18 months so if we go back there
We can reuse it
So not too bad really
Oh lost out a bit in some flights too by about 100 quid as we swapped them to next year and those flights were at a less premium time so
Not too bad all in

Waiting an £800 refund from Neilson, they've said it will be by the end of September and have kept us totally up to speed and well informed so happy at this point.

Voucher from Eurocamp but I hedged my bets and only paid the £99 deposit so not a biggie.

All in all I think we've been really lucky Smile

I lost £300 cancelling my weekend break to Milan at end of Feb (I could see Covid-19 was spreading rapidly and Milan was becoming very quiet!).

Waiting to see if I will lose £650 on holiday to France at the end of this month... We will go if all is well (as it can be) but will have to wait and see!

jarviscockatiel · 06/08/2020 10:57

We're still waiting on nearly £6000 due to the cancellation of my top of the bucket list holiday. Apparently we can use their voucher up till March 31st 2021. No good when my holiday time can't start until April 2nd due to being a teacher. DH is still trying to get the money back but it's a very slow frustrating process.

EmmaStone · 06/08/2020 11:04

So far have got most of our money back, still waiting on an insurance claim for a May weekend.

Currently on tenterhooks regarding a French trip, due to leave next weekend. Hoping it doesn't get blocked by FCO.

HUCKMUCK · 06/08/2020 11:09

We have been able to re-book for Florida for October 2021. Villa rental agency were not going to budge but luckily we know the people who own the villa so they negotiated for us. (only deposit of £450 so not whole balance).

Dial A Flight are fabulous and we just have to pay an ATOL fee of £10 to hold our deposit until we can book new flights.

DD has had a voucher from Easy Jet for her Naples flight and can use that up until the end of 2021 I think.

LockdownDowner · 06/08/2020 11:15

We lost nothing.

Villa owner in Spain refunded the villa deposit (balance had not been paid)
Airport parking was non-refundable but the company gave us a voucher.
Car hire was fully refunded.
Insurance was refunded.
Waiting for a refund from Ryanair...............

FizzyPink · 06/08/2020 11:17

We had a holiday to Greece booked in July (which in hindsight we should have just gone on) which we spent I think £100 changing to New York at Christmas. Just cancelled that and lost £400

We also had a holiday booked with BA. One we cancelled and got a voucher which we used to book another which also had to be cancelled and to be fair to them they were great at refunding us with no issued

TheSunIsStillShining · 06/08/2020 11:20

Saved thousands by not going on multiple holidays. But we never book anything more in advance than a week, so no loss.

TheyThoughtItWasAllOver · 06/08/2020 11:23

Hoping BA extends their refund voucher scheme to end of October as we spent £2,200 years on long haul flights to a country currently not accepting tourism and with Covid rates on the rise.

happystory · 06/08/2020 11:25

No, got ferry refunded and hotels hadn't yet been paid for.

Sirzy · 06/08/2020 11:27

Nothing thankfully. Haven fully refunded the caravan we had booked and P and O moved the deposit for a cruise to one we booked next year instead.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/08/2020 11:32

None. Jet 2 refunded our holiday abroad in full, we intend to do that same holiday when things improve.

We rebooked a cottage in Wales from May to September although it did cost slightly more.

A weekend in a seaside B&B was rebooked for later this month.

So far so good although we haven't actually been anywhere yet.

Goyle · 06/08/2020 11:32

£330 on a cottage in the Peak District. Sykes Cottages via Booking.com, though it wasn't made clear at the time Sykes were the agent. Hmm We gave up trying to get the money back (50% of the weekly rental) and sucked it up. Literally two days later after Sykes were given a public pummelling for their no refunds policy in the media they decided to refund everyone. We were not eligible because we settled. I tell everyone now, be careful using Booking.com because you might end up dealing with unscrupulous companies.

Ajahd · 06/08/2020 11:36

We lost our £400 deposit on a ferry to Spain so we could take the dog in October. To be honest we would've lost it anyway, corona or not as I fell pregnant and will be due a few days before we travel!

rookiemere · 06/08/2020 11:41

Lost about £700 in total not going on ski trip two days before they closed all the ski slopes in March.
About £350 on a deposit on Costa rica accommodation although we can rebook before next August Hmm.
Probably going to lose flights for European trips in September as not allowed into one country - Hungary - without expensive double testing , and another - Poland - as friends unwilling to go and will probably be against FCO advice by that time. So another £350 roughly.

LeopardPrintKnickers · 06/08/2020 11:43

We're about £6.5k out of pocket at the mo. We were meant to be going to the USA for a family wedding, and we were making a much bigger trip while we were out there. Flights with Virgin Atlantic and British Airways. Despite Brits not being allowed into the USA, the flight is still scheduled to take off in a few days' time and so they'll only offer us a voucher. We don't want or need a voucher, we need that money back...

Nosuchluck · 06/08/2020 11:53

A £2800 cruise was cancelled and we have the choice of a £3500 cruise credit or our money back so money lost there.
We cancelled another cruise and received £1100 of £1500 deposit back so lost £400 but saved the £11000 it would have cost to go on the cruise. It's also broken the very expensive routine of taking out young adult children in holiday us each summer so I'm happy to have lost the £400.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/08/2020 11:54

Instead, I am looking at the money we have SAVED by changing our plans. Deposits / flights / hotels / festival tickets were already paid for. That money was gone before Covid was even heard of!!

So I have saved:

£2k final balance payment
£500 spending money festival / petrol
£500 car hire / airport parking / petrol
£1500 spending money 2 weeks in Italy
£400 spending money long weekend in Rome
£100 parking / petrol for Rome

So saved nearly £5k.

We've spent £300 on camping plus another prob £400 spending money so even if we blow the expenses budget and it's nearer a grand then we've saved £4K

PLUs - we now have a free festival next year and flights already paid for 2021.

Result if you look at it like that!!

20viona · 06/08/2020 11:55

Iv got all my money back including a none refundable hotel booked through Expedia. I used my credit card section 22 I think to claim Back for Goods not received. Much simpler than going through each company.

Nosuchluck · 06/08/2020 11:55

That should say no money lost there.

Sarahbeans · 06/08/2020 12:27

Thankfully none. Couldn't transfer flights to next year, as the bookings wasn't up yet, so instead, I

Managed to transfer flights to another destination next year.

Transferred hotel booking to next year.

Therefore I have a hotel to pay for at next year's booking and a flight to pay for at the original destination.

As we're not holidaying this year, we're having two mini breaks next year.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 06/08/2020 12:37

£300 deposit for U.K. May break gone. If FCO say we can’t travel to France next week then the crossing tickets are good for a year bit we stand to lose £2500 for the accommodation unless - its up to the owners as it is a private arrangement. Didn’t get any money back for U.K. Easter holiday but it did get moved to next Easter.

summersolstice43 · 06/08/2020 12:41

£300 as the hotel I booked isn't opening this season and the travel agents are refusing a refund even thought Im not the one who cancelled. I've got an ongoing case to get my refund with my credit card company who I paid with so waiting to see if I can get anything back at all

Bodie83Nahla · 06/08/2020 12:43

These replies are giving me hope. Due to fly to Gran Canaria in three weeks (Ryanair flights, package booked through LoveHolidays). We booked last September and don't want to go so hoping it will be cancelled and refunded. If we cancel now we will lose £2000 in flight money.

Northernsoullover · 06/08/2020 12:50

I got flight vouchers from Vueling which I've used to book next years flights. I paid a deposit on a Villa which the agency has transferred to next year. Let's hope next year is better.
